Glasgow Splunch Saturday 8th March 2014

Postby djrobertson1985 » 09 Feb 2014, 00:26

The Splunches are fair mounting up, and Saturday 8th March sees Glasgow play host! This will be a vanilla meet & all are welcome to come along.

The venue.
Wee change from last year, we are meeting at The Drum and Monkey at the corner of St Vincent Street and Renfield Street. For those staying on, we'll go for a meal afterwards.

Time.
2-6pm.

Travel
Queen Street Station is only a 10 minute walk to the pub. Central Station is just 5 minutes walk away, and both stations have national rail travel across Scotland and further afield. The Drum and Monkey is about 15 minutes walk away from Buchanan Bus Station for anyone travelling by coach or bus. For anyone who chooses to fly, both Glasgow and Prestwick Airports are served by most of the airlines. There is a direct train service from Prestwick Airport to Glasgow Central and a bus from Glasgow airport.
For anyone driving, there are plenty of car parks, but be warned, this can be pricey. On street parking is limited, time limited and expensive. Bets options are to park in either the Buchanan Galleries or St Enoch Centre car parks which are close by. Otherwise to use the SPT Park and ride facilities at kelvinbridge, Bridge Street or Shields Road Subway stations. The nearest Subway Station to The Drum and Monkey is Buchanan Street or St Enoch and this is only a 5 minute walk from both.

Accomodation
There is plenty of hotels, from the Marriot, Hilton and Crowne Plaza to the more basic Premier Inn and Travel Lodge. Any questions with regard to location of hotels to the venue, let me know by pm.

Let me know if you are planning on coming. Any questions regarding the Glasgow Splunch I shall answer if I can. If anyone who has organised a Splunch notices I've missed out any important info, please let me know. I look forward to meeting new folks on the 8th March!

Just 2 days to go til the Splunch. I'm a little disappointed with the uptake on this event, but there's time to change that. So, to all my Scottish Sploshers, lets see you in the Drum & Monkey. How long we have a Splunch is kinda up to you guys. Turn out & I'm happy to organise, but I'm not organising a meet for penny numbers & the majority who turn up have travelled great distances.

All that will happen is much food and drink shall be consumed. There's no expectation to drink alcohol, it's cool to stsy on softs. Much discussion will take place ranging from Sploshing to football to politics to the weather and anything else in between. Can't make it for 2, we'll be there s few hours, so that's not an issue just come when you can. Likewise if you need to leave early.

All I ask is if you plan on staying for dinner then let me know please. The plan for dinner is to go to The China Buffet King in West Nile Street.

The way to find us will be there will be holiday brochures on the table. I'll try to get a table at the raised platform on the left as you walk in. I'll also be wearing an orange Irn-Bru tshirt. If anyone wishes, pm me & I'll send you my mobile number.

So come on Scottish Sploshers. Lets see you at the Drum & Monkey on Satutday from 2pm!!! I'll even buy your first drink!!!!
