North-west (UK) Splunch, Liverpool, Sat 19th Oct 2013

.
Coming soon to a venue near you!! :-)

----------------------------

DATE & TIME
Saturday 19th October 2013, 3-9pm approx.
After our successful move from Warrington to Liverpool enabling a greater catchment for the new Leeds splunch, we're back again on our regular 3rd Sat in October.
(Note, however, that this may be the last Autumn version of the Liverpool meet as, from next year (if things go according to plan), autumn will see the first Bill Shipton memorial Splunch down south.)
We'll be back in Liverpool in Spring again after this one, though on the 2nd Sat not the usual 3rd (as that's Easter in 2014).

VENUE
We have a city-centre venue that’s open-plan, airy and flexible, with food served until 9pm.
Yates’s
Queen Square
LIVERPOOL
L1 1RH
(It’s actually on the corner of Hood Street (loads of bus stops) and Whitechapel, not quite as shown on the map.)
See for yourself here

IDENTIFICATION:
Could I suggest that a convenient way of identification without attracting attention is to carry a map, perhaps an A-Z or Ordnance Survey map? We'll put one on the table.

TRAVEL:
The map here shows the location. As you can see, it’s alongside Queen Square bus station and only 5 mins walk from either Lime Street mainline station or Central station for local services.

DRIVING:
For a full route map, put your postcode and that of the destination (L1 1RH) in the route planner here (on the RHS) and it intelligently routes you to Queen Square multi-storey car park . For those using Motorways, the useful Traffic England website gives live updates of motorway delays.

TRAINS & BUSES:
Main line services terminate at Lime Street, just 5 mins away while local services from the Wirral and north-south Liverpool pass through Central station, also 5 mins away. Queen Square, alongside our venue, is one of the main bus stations in the city centre. (See below for a useful link to all bus & train timetables.)

FLIGHTS:
Liverpool Airportis just visible on the bottom left hand edge of the wider map (below) and there are so many cheap flights (it's an EasyJet/RyanAir hub) and easy transport connections to it these days that those travelling a distance might find it simpler to fly in! (Terribly environmentally unfriendly, mind.) Arriva bus 500 runs every 30 mins from the airport to Queen Square bus station.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT INFO:
For those needing to find land-based public transport links, this excellent site enables you to put in your postcode (if you're in the same region) and that of your destination (L1 1RH) and it gives you all the alternatives, even including walking time to bus stops with street by street walking directions and super-detailed maps if you click the relevant buttons!
For those travelling across the regional boundaries of that site (and, therefore, probably by train), the TrainTimes site provides a splendid simplified interface to the National Rail times and fares info but bear in mind that the data is provided by National Rail so tends to be only as good as the data they use for their own site (which means it won't necessarily show you the fastest or cheapest route, just the ones that are 'allowed' within their route-planning structural rules!).

BEHAVIOUR etc:
Although the last thing we want are 'rules', following much 'discussion' on another thread about a different splunch down south a few years ago, could I suggest that we all think carefully about how we might scare away nervous wammers if we're not careful. (This is a kink, after all.) Those who are confident about the way they are may not appreciate that they may scare people away from coming along to say hello. Could I suggest that we should treat everyone with respect and try not to draw attention to ourselves. We're in a provincial town-centre pub on a Saturday afternoon, not Soho on a Saturday night. I'd suggest dressing normally rather than 'flamboyantly' (e.g. best to leave the cross-dressing and rubber gear at home! LoL.), using people's real names rather than using their kink name, and talking quietly when discussing any kinky issues which could cause embarrassment. Remember that people who work with any member of our group might be in the same pub and not everyone wants their kinks broadcast! Having said that, the background noise level was fairly high when we checked it out, which should help.

FOOD:
During the sample evening in there, Lesley_Claymore-Wam, MessyJoJo, Carmen Fantastic and Gentleman Bastard found that the food was actually very good for what is a large chain pub and they serve it up to 9pm too.

HOTEL:
For those travelling from farther afield who wish to stay overnight, the city centre has many hotels. There is a bit of a problem at weekends, especially when any of the three local football teams are playing at home, which is most weekends. Then prices tend to shoot up unless you’re prepared to go for someone ‘out in the sticks’ and commute in and out. Having said that, the timings are such that it should be possible to do the splunch within the day from many places. (eg. London only 2-2 ½ hours away and currently showing fares from £19 return on Super Advance booking at time of creating this page.)

-----------------

So who's up for a meet then? Just a chin wag and a drink for people to get to know each other - no actual wamming, of course. (The purpose of these meetings is to enable those who might want to do so to arrange that separately if they wish. Otherwise it's just a friendly afternoon in the pub with people of similar interests - what more could you want?!)

Regards,
L. C_W.

Not too long now!

I see we're already picking up people on the other site. (Unusual not to see any replies here but it sometimes happens that everyone uses the other one.)

Oh, go on then, just for you. I've got my tickets; I'll be there.

Last one in the autumn will be this year, pup. Handing over to Mike for the Bill Shipton memorial splunch "dine sythe" from Autumn 2014 so it'll probably only be north-west in spring each year. Pity, though in a good cause. Hope you can actually manage to make this one, under the circumstances!

Less than a week to go now. Looking forward to seeing faces old and new! The notice of the meeting is on several sites so there are people who've replied to various notices elsewhere too.

Let's not forget to all bring a map with us for identification purposes. A-Z or OS would be good choices.

I see Fetlife is down this evening, which is a nuisance as the meeting is flagged up on quite a few pages there which I can't find! Hopefully it'll be up by tomorrow morning again.

Safely back home in Bristol. Good to see familiar faces, forgotten faces, and new faces; and thanks to Claymore for hosting.

Watch a space quite close to this one for the initial details of the first annual Bill Shipton Memorial Splunch.

LoL! :-)

I did have a sip of Carmen's Magarita ... and very nice it was too! However ... driving and work to be done so....

Here's to the next one which will be on the SECOND Saturday in April. (Capitals as that's a departure from our normal third Saturday, which is Easter in 2014.)
