R.I.P Bill Shipton

Incredibly sad news, I have only just found out and as I read the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, his legacy must live on, with some kind of annual tribute, so this kind wonderful man and what he stood for is never forgotten.

I still can't believe that he is gone. R I P Mr Shipton you were an inspiration to many.

Just logged on today and was shocked by the news. I still remember, many years ago, receiving my first copy of the Splosh Magazine. Not only was it an amazing publication it was so great to know I wasn't the only one with Sploshing genes.

He will be sorely missed and sincere condolences to friends and family.

When I read the news Friday night I was hit with disbelief and shock, such a legend gone.
A man who was such an incredible help to me without knowing it. I started to think back over the years of how I felt about my fetish, how alone I was with no one to turn to.

My first knowledge of Splosh magazine was after reading an article in Mayfair, no internet back in those day I got in contact and a few days later received my very first copy of Splosh magazine, issue 5. It was a revelation, people like the same sort of thing as me, I am not alone in the world. Its ok to want to get covered in food, and see others messy. And everyone on here knows what I am talking about.
I have made some good friends on here, and have been very lucky to meet one of you recently, which has made an enormous difference to my acceptance of my fetishes, for which I cannot thank you enough.
So without Bill and Splosh there would be a lot more secret closets with frustrated people in.

I have never posted here before, but have love Sploshing for many years. Bill was an inspiration and allowed me to realise that what I did wasn't strange at all with many like minded people.

Bill: I wish I had made contact earlier. Just goes to prove there is no time like the present - if you want to do something, get on with it, never put things off as you don't know what's around the next corner.

Not really sure what to say. I only met Bill the once, but it was partly due to him that I met MessyLaura.

It was a post by Smiley on this forum that made me go to the London Splunch, we always thought that if things worked out we would have invited him to the wedding.

I can't think of anything to say that hasn't been said. I never had the privilege of meeting Bill but, as echoed by others, his work with 'Splosh' and my discovery of it remains a key moment in my life.
Sincere condolences to family and friends.

RIP Bill.... if ever you bump into the late Rob Blaine then messy mayhem up there is assured!

I was so sorry to hear that Bill had passed away.

He increased the public awareness of messy fun and coined the " Sploshing " term. Splosh magazine was a brilliant achievement and quite unique in those days before the internet. The Splosh website and forum reflected Bill's sense of fun, his appreciation of diversity and his understanding of the needs of the sploshing community.

Long may he be remembered.

R.I.P Bill. I first came across Bill on the late night James Whale show and thought splosh looked fun. If it was not for Bill I would never have tried sploshing.

I have to un-lurk to add my voice to the tributes, although I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said. Like many others, Bill's work proved I wasn't alone, and he must be counted as one of those rare characters who was the driving force behind an entire scene. I think it shows in everything he did that it was for fun and love, not profit, and the WAM scene is surely a much richer place, no, community for it.


sploshmeyesplease's suggestion of an annual tribute rather appeals - in my mind it would be like valentine's day but with more custard

Just wanted to echo everyone elses thoughts, Bill you were a legend and will certainly never be forgotten.

Like many guys of a certain age Sally James on Tiswas was my first inspiration which lurked at the back on my mind untill I found the Splosh site and I realised I wasn't as weird as I thought. Always dreamt of one day booking a session at the studio but lack of money and being at the wrong end of England meant I never got around to it.

Thoughts and condolences to all this many friends and family.

Like a few on here, I don't post much but do lurk around and only exchanged a hand full of messages with the man but its clear he is a great man, one of the very few who take the time to help out others even when they are complete strangers!
