Our Thoughts are With You Guys

Postby BillShipton » 30 Oct 2012, 15:23

I really don't want to appear sanctimonious but on behalf of all here at Splosh! can I just say that our thoughts are very much with everyone on the East Coast of the US right now, and I hope you make it through unscathed and unhurt. No-one is to blame for natural disasters, all you can do hang on in there and rebuild when it's over.

Meanwhile be careful and look after yourselves as best you can.

Sincerely,
Bill

I was swapping a few pm's last night on Fetlife. It's not good at the moment. I too wished everybody well. Hoping everybody is safe.

regards

Andy and the team.

New York City took the brunt of it. I haven't been following it too closely, but I guess the subway system is under water. The New Jersey shoreline took a beating. What I just read was that over six million people are still without power... would imagine vast majority of that is NYC and New Jersey.

Things are getting back to normal here in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. There are still plenty of trees down but for the most part power has been restored.

Afriend who works for the power company that supplies the southern part of New Jersey said they had over 1.2million without power and that some of the more costal regions may not see power till this weekend to as long as the following weekend.

This wouldn't be as big a deal had the storm been earlier in the summer due to the warmer temps then. However, temps have been in the upper 40's to low 50's which isn't fun with no power for extended periods.

Our area got mainly a wind storm with some rain but not the massive amount that was initially predicted.

Parts of West Virginia received upwards of two feet of heavy wet snow which at this time of year is probably more problematic than just having heavy rain and winds.

All this was part of what was at one time called Hurricane Sandy which has now become known as simply Massive Storm Sandy due to it becoming extra tropical and merging to become a nor'easter.

Cheers,
Smitty
