Hi guys, Leeds is now not far away. The date for your diary is 6th October, and the place Becketts Bank Bar, 28-30 Park Row, Leeds, LS1 5JD.
For anyone coming from the railway station, once through the barrier gates, go straight ahead across the square concourse, ignore the ticket office to the left and go straight out of the glass doors directly ahead. This brings you into the bus/taxi area. Turn left and walk along the pavement on the outside of the building, under the end of the Queen's Hotel. If you look straight ahead from there, you're looking straight up Park Row, across City Square. Becketts Bank is about 2/3 of the way up the street on the left hand side, and the street is full of big impressive real bank offices, there's a huge Lloyds with a black horse statue, HSBC, an RBS, NatWest, and an Abbey National beyond it. Park Row is the heart of Leeds financial district.
If you are visiting by coach the coach station is next to the bus station. Head north and turn left onto Ludgate Hill, turn right onto Millgarth St, turn left onto Union St, turn right onto Harewood St, turn left onto Eastgate, continue onto The Headrow, turn left onto Park Row; a little over half-mile in total.
As for hotels, prices start from £39.00 and go all the way up to £199.00 on laterooms.com.
The Splunch starts at 2pm with us looking at going to the Tong Palace for dinner around 7-8pm; I will confirm the time.
Everyone is welcome and it will be good to meet some new folks. Let’s show the southerners that we know how to Splunch too

Re: Leeds splunch 6th october
Claymore has a full time job Maddie and runs the Warrington splunch out of the goodness of his heart. He does not get time to attend other splunches due to work commitments.
You'd know that if you bothered to read any of the Warrington splunch threads.
To point towards the fact that you feel, he is 'not keen' on your event is not nice at all.

Re: Leeds splunch 6th october
Flanman you having a go at Maddie for what she said and then making even worse comments yourself is not nice at all either, by the way. Just thought I'd point that out.
Peace and lurve, people. The more splunches the better I say!

Me too. I never cease to be amazed at how 'competitive' the splunches can appear to be. For me, going to one and not another is purely a question of what else is happening that weekend so the more there are the more I stand a chance of getting to.
Bill
PS To prove it I can't even get to the munch in my own local on Wednesday!

Re: Leeds splunch 6th october
Good heavens! I'm offline at work for a day and world war 3 breaks out!
The reason I mentioned it just after Pup's post is that he has been a regular at Warrington and, for a while, we actively co-promoted it. I haven't seen him for a while and It was merely a comment in passing that I was hoping that we would be seeing him again soon, as well as a reminder when the next meeting is (and a self-realisation that I really must get the details posted up soon, though it obviously can't wait until after the Leeds event as that wouldn't give enough notice.) Hopefully, fellow northerners, having been to Leeds, will also feel suitably encouraged to come to Warrington, though that may be a little less likely since they're only a couple of weeks apart.
I'm slightly puzzled as to the thought process that might consider that to be taken as an insult but it certainly wasn't aimed that way, unless I've maybe missed something and it was a case of 'the cap fitting' and I'd accidentally touched a raw nerve. Dunno really. All very odd.
Yes, I agree with Bill, the more splunches the merrier. Indeed, as Maddie will remember, I sent her a very comprehensive PM with as many hints in as possible, including how we have our regular dates so that everyone can work out when the Warrington Splunch is and suggesting how the North-east group might like to co-ordinate in a similar way, suggestions and examples of how we've talked with Bristol, London etc. in the past to co-ordinate ourselves and an invitation to chat in the hope that we can extend that co-operation to Leeds, suggestions for transport, travel info etc. I remember even suggesting Blayds Bar as a possible venue, as that was the last Leeds splunch that I actually did make it to myself (in the room upstairs). (I remember thinking I'd probably spent rather too long on that mail but hoped that it would be useful.) I'm therefore equally puzzled to learn that I "wasn't too keen" on the idea.
I've always said, right back from the days when I set up the Regional WAM YahooGroups and created the suggested area maps, tried to gather people together in groups to pass them on to someone local per area and encouraged people to set up actual regional meetings, that the whole point of setting up something local to your own region is that it should obviate the need for people to spend a whole day travelling and/or having to stay overnight in a hotel at additional cost. The need for no more than a cheap-day return ticket should be the aim for all of us. With both a job and a 7 day/week bricks & mortar business to run as well, I personally can't justify the time (and cost) of travelling around the country just to spend an afternoon in a pub chatting about Splosh - that's why I started the North-west regional one so that I could easily meet up with fellow sploshers, without taking up the whole weekend, which I generally can't do. I'm always delighted and surprised that there are those who can but I only ever consider that to be a bonus. That's why I'm pleased to see that the North-east area is regaining its splunch status in Leeds.
Anyway, I hope that Leeds will be as successful as it used to be and also that some folk will join us again in Warrington thereafter. (I'll post up the full details in a new thread as soon as I get a mo, hopefully within the next day or so.) Now can we all get back to the matter in hand please? Pass the custard!!!!

Re: Leeds splunch 6th october
It's not poor organisation or malicious imho... I recall the early days of maddie organising it and many of us (myself included) urged her to just pick a date and venue and go for it.
Splunch dates are always going to clash with something or other so it's a bit of a minefield, don't let maddie get it in the neck for that because it wasn't only her behind it.
I think different splunches hold different appeal to people anyway and are not in competition with each other, apart from for the very very few sploshers who like to try and attend every single one.
For example, I used to live a mile from the city centre of Leeds so love going back there, an appeal that Warrington doesn't hold for me.
