The New Saturday Summer Splunch

This will allow more for those coming from far and wide and who might want to do a day trip. Also the city type atmosphere disappears at the weekend and has more of a tourist vibe.

The meet changes

Wear what you want, do what you want, get wet or messy outside if you fancy it. Just remember we are in a public place, all you need to ask yourself is are your actions generally considered acceptable in public. Only you will know the answer. If it’s a yes then go for it. Just keep any messy business outside the pub (yes we did get chucked out once). Lets keep it fun for all.

The other stuff

To help find the right group quickly look for the seasonal item which this time is a some holiday broachers on the centre of the table along with a birthday card. If you can't find us call the London Meet mobile on 07984 886 085 and we will find you and bring you over to the group. 

The full address for the meet is The Penderels Oak, 283-288 High Holborn WC1V 7HP and can now be seen on google street view .The nearest tube stations are Holborn on the Central and Piccadilly lines or Chancery Lane on the Central line. There is also a wide selection of buses to choose from, serving near and far in all directions. The Penderels Oak is nice and big and has two bars (one on street level and another basement bar downstairs). We will be located in the main upstairs bar and as near to the main entrance as we can be. When you enter the main door there are some tables directly ahead in the corner and we aim to be in or close to that area. 

The London Splunch is for people from the wam community to meet other fellow wammers in person and put faces to the names. It is about having a few drinks, building trust and friendships and generally getting to know each other a little better in real life. It has been, in fact, a springboard to arrange other meets and events as a result. The discussions will not always be wam, plenty of other general chitter-chatter goes on too, so feel free to talk about anything you like ! It is also a great place to offer your services, promote your content, buy and sell wam stuff and have fun ! 

The pub serves a very good selection of ales, wines, ciders, beers and spirits. In addition there is also a wide range of soft drinks on offer to go with the 'pub grub menu'

Anyone and everyone who wants to come is invited, so come along ! ! ! The London Meet is open to all, we have had many people come a long way from far and wide to be there.

I've always wanted to get to one of these meets but something big has always got in the way. That day is also the day of the Pride Parade - no way am I missing that. So if you're still around late afternoon or evening I may be able to join you. Hopefully, I'll have had a splash in the Trafalgar square fountains first!

We will go on as long as people are there, will most likely finish around 11pm - mid night ish, it will be a long one. We may move on as a group around 10pm ish to another pub, depending on how people feel. But just have the London meet number stored on your phone and drop me a text, then i can update you on events on the day.

Sploshman arrives about 5 minutes before closing time anyway, im sure you will beat him to the meet, what ever time you arrive.

Thank you, Smiley. It's in the diary and, provided my mad gay and tranny friends haven't kept me too long, I should be there. For once, I'm hoping it does rain on our parade, so I can get nice and wet lol!

Me and Mordicus were in the P'oak sunday with the intention of checking out the fountains at somerset house, unfortunatly they were off, the attendent said they are on during the week days, not sure but it may have had something to do with the recent hose pipe ban as i have noticed other fountains around trafalgar not working as they should or off.

we headed towards the south bank and the disapearing rooms fountain was not there either, they said it was due to the water restiction.

non the less i had a back up plan, the big bit of water between the north and south, thats usually 'working' lol,
indead the thames came to the rescue and provided my soggyness, virtually opposite embankment station there are conveniant steps that sink down into the thames.

at first the water was a little wavey producing a small splash up the steps but after a boat went by the water dropped and rose a good 4-5 steps creating an epic wave machine effect, got drenched, which was nice in the warm sun, steps are usually a bit green and slimey so i didnt sit on them as i was wearing a black and white dress and needed it to stay clean-ish for the tube home later.

meeting Mordicus last year at the London meet has been great for me, not only has he been a great play partner and lover but something i would never considered doing was being out as Laura on a hot sunny day, obviously i'm not in any delusion i pass as a real woman in those conditions, but i get hardly any geers when i'm with her.

We did indeed have fun wandering round, the steps Laura mentioned are just behind Cleopatra's Needle if that makes it easier for people to pinpoint if interested

Just read today that swimming in the Thames downstream from Putney is to be prohibited from this coming Sunday. What 'swimming' means in this context I don't know. Surely getting splashed on some steps is OK? ("It was an accident, officer. Now just look at silly old me with my T-shirt all wet *giggle*")

I am guessing EVERYTHING will be banned in London for the next couple of months. Swimmers will probably be shot at with missiles or something. I'd be very careful. I reckon the police will have carte blanche to arrest anyone behaving in any way suspiciously for that period. Many peaceful protesters who have been demonstrating for years have been warned to stay home. Bloody Olympics.

re: Swimming in Thames issue. No Bill, I've just been listening to the boss of the Port of London Authority on the Today programme. It's a permanent thing. They're worried about how dangerous it is as there are whirlpools and strong current around bridge pillars and moorings which (they say) can suck you under, which is probably true, though why it hasn't bothered them until now is an interesting 'coincidence'. They also cite danger to other river users saying that boats may have to take emergency action to divert due to swimmers. Sounds a bit 'over the top' to me but that's what they're saying, anyway. It could be a very embarrassingly public way of getting a criminal record for being a Splosher so, sadly, it looks like circumspection may be the only alternative.
