I liked Benny Hill too, in particular Hills Angels and do recollect a bit of mess involving the gorgeous Louise English, I think Benny sprayed her with a soda syphon once and also pieing her possibly twice.

You might enjoy this Benny Hill compilation clip I found a while ago, Mr Angry, I think it contains most of those messy moments to which you refer. (My thanks to the person who compiled it originally and apologies that I can't credit them)

Looks like Fremantle got there first! Fremantle have bought up a lot of the old Thames material.

It was blocked instantly (even when I removed all key words in the title). I've changed the link from here, however (doesn't like the direct one). Worked for about 10 minutes...

Funny that it doesn't seem to block any of the numerous other Benny Hill clips on there.

:(

Great compilation, Trouso! I can only remember a few of these, didn't realise that Benny had included so many messy skits.

Benny's death was a great loss to innocent, funny and harmless comedy. It annoys me that the PC brigade seem to regard it as offensive and that it rarely gets shown, while we now get comics who seem to think that gratuitous bad language and maliciousness make up for poor material. (I sound just like my Dad!).

Thank you for posting that series of clips. Very appreciated.

I realize it was old English music hall comedy, but it was done so well. Of course, he did make a fortune for Boots Randolph.

Has anyone noticed a slight resemblance between Benny Hill and Arthur Godfrey? (Or is it time to quite watching American TV on YouTube?)

Excellent stuff, Trouso. Delighted to see that Benny was prone to repeating gags as well, although there are a few more there we can steal!

In light of SimonW's comment, I must admit to thinking it would be fun to have a group of mini-skirted firewomen armed with foam extinguishers called The PC Brigade.

Big yay! Loving these clips too. The awful thing is I can remember most of them from the show - especially the girls getting sprayed with mud which was as messy as I remembered. Must have been a teenager when I first saw that.

Speaking as a now middle-aged woman, I have never found Benny Hill (or the early Freddie Starr) stuff offensive. The men were such idiots they were never a serious threat to the girls, and they always came off worst. A guy certainly wouldn't copy their behaviour thinking it was 'cool' (unlike gun-toting rappers). In fact, even as a teenager, I had a desire to be their stooge but at a lanky five foot nine with no tits to speak of (then) I was more suited to ballet which I hated!

My other fascination was with those acts where two men swung a girl around and threw her across the stage to be caught by another pair, popular on variety shows of the time. I wanted to be the girl sooooo much. I think Charlie Drake did a piss-take of this with the girl always ending up on the floor - even better! But like a lot of girls from ordinary non-show business backgrounds, I was told such ideas were ridiculous and to find a proper job and settle down. Probably just as well, you don't see too many acts like that working now!

Thanks Trouso once again! You've made an old MILF very nostalgic!

Glad you all enjoyed it (and honoured that the title of Clown Julie’s original post has been amended to accommodate it!).
