Pies and splosh in theatre

There have been some clips in our vault (unreleased) that feature a gag where an actress shows up on an off broadway stage and is gunged and pied. I will try and dig some of those up.

I love it when you get an unexpected bit of sploshing in a live show! It sends a little thrill through me. Singing in the Rain is a good one, Bugsy Malone of course and Mack & Mabel. No, Tommy the stage show didn't feature the baked bean scene! That was all down to Ken Russell.

A long time ago (pre-Splosh!) I got taken to see a play which had a big water fight in it. So much so that people in the front row were given bin liners to cover their laps. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the play, except that this was the only interesting bit! It was held in one of those upstairs pub theatres and full of hidden meaning - so well hidden it went completely over my head. Unfortunately the water didn't! (I'm quite proud of that line!!). Think I must have been pretending not to be a bimbo at the time!

Keep the theatrical sploshing references coming, fellas!

Here's some of Mack & Mabel which you mentioned. I've yet to find really great pie coverage but some is better than nothing... The search continues! There's loads of theatre groups out there that post pics on their sites. Just a case of identifying plays with splosh scenes. From time to time you come across a few gems! Watch this space.

The play was shown on two nights and the photographer kindly shot on both occasions capturing with great clarity the pie scene both nights!

Something special about a splosh scene not being a one off; but repeated the next nigh!

Great find. Good photos: Sexy actresses, well dressed (inc. the pie thrower) ; and clearly, real food used in the pie/flan. And I agree about the repeat performance thing.

It's a reworking of a 17th century Comedia del Arte piece (which happens to be the tradition that first gave us 'slapstick'). I ought to say firstly it's probably the funniest thing I've seen in the theatre, but also involves a female cast member on the end of some excellent wet and messy treatment. I won't give the set up as it comes as a glorious and delightful surprise.
Apparently there's a video of the production on the NT website but I don;t seem able to access it. I'd thoroughly recommend it if you can get a ticket.

There are a few short videos there, but sadly nothing to give away the above (no pictures and nothing on Youtube).

There is, however a clue within a short video featuring the cast's curtain call. Everyone is in costume except for a blonde woman who is wearing a bath robe and flip-flops (fresh out of the shower after a head to toe messing up? I wonder if... ).

Suzie Toase (who also appears in some of the 'Harry Potter films, I think), has light coloured hair, maybe light brown in the NT play but I've also seen pics of her as a blonde.

I really don't like spoilers, but I will say that is the cast member who appears for the curtain call in a bath robe. She was smartly dressed, as if for a night out, in the scene where a fire starts. she's the one that gets water thrown on her followed by head to toe coverage from a foam fire extinguisher.

Discovered more info. Some forums describe an audience participation scene where a woman called 'Christine Patterson' is brought on stage and splashed with water and finally foamed by fire extinguisher.

In fact as the forum link describes (see bottom) it is an actress playing an audience member! - apparently called Polly Conway (see blog link within the link) who is credited as ensemble.

However Polly doesn't look much like the woman taking the bow in the video who is blond - so I wonder if the other credited ensemble 'Claire Thomson' is the real actress? ie she's blond!
