Thanks, Squelch - and thanks Bill (Heh! Heh!). I thought I'd try to 'lighten up' my long and heavy post.

Cos I missed it!

Well here is the clip on YouTube

But do be quick ! - The BPI and the BBC keep taking down the posts - It was a great performance By Lady G and amazing for mainstream telly on a Friday night.

Imagine the poor Daily Mail reader watching it ! - "oh my god what is that woman doing? - Dear Points of View, I wish to complain about... looked like a vat of men's.. well you know... writhing around... quite disgusting..." !

Enjoy

Hi Clare,

To put this post back on topic - and I know I posted on Lady Ga Ga above...

Here are a few of the performace artists I know about:

Yves Klein - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yves_Klein

From Wikipedia
"This experimentalism would lead to a number of works Klein made using naked female models covered in blue paint and dragged across or laid upon canvases to make the image, using the models as living brushes".

Back in the Eighties, Channel 4 had a live late night arts show where they recreated Klein's blue paint performance during the program. It was, shall we say interesting, but I remember the presenter seemed very embarrased!

Hope this is of interest

I had forgotten all about Karen Finley (there were no pictures of her on the net last time I looked a few years ago).

And of course, Yves Klein. I always thought it was a pity that this wasn't captured on film (just a few grainy photographs taken some distance away). I think that's why Channel 4 did that piece (which I have never seen again since it was on!).

Someone else I quite like is Boo Ritson. She 'paints over' the models (often herself) with emulsion paint and her partner photographs the 'living paintings' (pictures from Google search).

You also get some fairly mainstream music videos that use wet and/or messy content, like this one by Kids of 88.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5P-U7SmoIM

It's done in quite a sensual way, but that doesn't mean it's not art!

Hi Trouso,
Actually there are recordings - on YouTube, Vimeo and Google Videos

And many more if you search on Google "Yves Klein" and videos

I have a video recording of that Channel 4 arts show and now want to watch it again, BUT at the moment I can't find it in my 600 plus tapes!

I know this thread is a little old now, but this just popped up on the UMD, and it looks really relevant to the original question. If anyone’s still following this, here’s a clip of some performance art using A LOT of Nutella! Wonder where they got the idea from?

PS Trouso, I love your current profile pic, that’s some really nice work there!

Interesting symbolism with the bananas in the Nutella one. as to the Yves Klein one; I've always enjoyed an occasional blue movie!

Oh, come on. Somebody had to say it!

Great! Never seen that before. She seems to like her Nutella (there's another video there of her smearing it all over herself). A case for sponsorship if ever I saw one.

(And thanks for the compliment. Appreciate it.)
