Editing pics?

Postby Candy Custard » 13 Nov 2010, 00:19

Oooh help me please some nice kind person.

Sorry if this appears to be off topic, but I will post the resulting messy pics if I can get this sorted.

I recently did a set of sploshy pictures, but they all need rotating, and when I do rotate them it turns from a rectangle to a square, gets distorted and makes me look far wider than I am.

I've tried a few things (paint, irfanview, finepix software) but nothing seems to be working. Any ideas?

I need to know what I can do as have more pics to do for a rather epic session I'm planning this Tuesday and will be doing pics then too with the same camera.

you could always try importing to powerpoint, rotating there and even if it distorts you can readjust in pic properties and then resave the pic in whatever format you want jpg, tiff etc. let me know if you need more detailed instructions than this

hope it helps

really looking forward to seein gsome more pics of you btw

keep up the great work

If you're using a recent version of Windows the built in photo viewer can rotate images. In Windows 7 you browse to the folder containing the images, select one, click Preview from the ribbon and the work your way through the images with the foward and back buttons clicking the rotate buttons as necessary. I believe Vista was the same, can't remember what XP did though.

hi Candy,

I would highly recommend Fast Stone image viewer.

Its free and allows you to rotate images easily (as well as adjust brightness/contrast and load of other things)
but its also a REALLY good image viewer application, and I'd recommend it to anyone reading this as an alternative to the standard image viewers that windows offers. I'm amazed its free!

I have this viewer as my default application for opening jpgs. It allows me to view, zoom and scroll through my images with (ahem) one hand free :D

here's the link;

look forward to seeing your pics (as always)

Snake... downloaded and trying it now, it's still distorting the pics though.

Thanks for trying, looks like it may have to be done with powerpoint.

Strange that everything is distorting them, normally it just works OK.

You can try Picasa which is free - but it sounds like something is weird with the images themselves.

Feel free to post a rotated one and see if someone can fix it in here, of course ;)

as you are trying to turn a rectangle into a square you might be better off re-sizing the canvas in photo shop to a square before rotating it
if you are still having trouble i will pm you with my email and i'll see if i can help??

Candy you most likely need to do whay MessyLaura has suggested. The pic will probably want re-sizing as well, as flipping. Without the re-size its most likely, why the
pic looks distorted once turned.

Andy and the team.

Thanks all, that does seem to be working a bit better.

I have a couple of other things to try to see if I can improve it further, then when they are sorted I will post a few. Don't get too excited though they are not the greatest or messiest pics ever. Tuesdays ones should be excellent and plentiful though ;)

Candy, I have a fairly decent range of image editing software - I'd be more than happy to rotate them for you and send them back if you want to send them across. PM me if you want!

got the pics from cc and rotated them in the pic viewer on xp and sent the rotated pics to myself to check them and they seemed fine so lets see if cc gets them the right way up, hopefully they dont slip over in the custard lol

i didn't need to put them through photoshop as the veiwer didn't change the relationship..................that sounded wrong as i was typing it..........

This all sounds a bit unnecessarily complex :)

Another vote for the built in Windows stuff if you are on that, or Picasa.

Glad it might be sorted and look forward to seeing the results!
