chiswick at high tide

Postby messylaura » 13 Oct 2010, 00:31

wow, this sunday was pretty darn fun, chiswick mall in london regularly floods twice a day during high tide, i had always gone there for the night time high tides as its not been possible to meet them during the day time, along with the fact i hardly ever go 'dressed' during the daytime. some of the tides will flood the road on one side as high as your neck, on the opposite side it will allow you to walk through up to your thighs,
as this sunday gone was the last of the 7.4 meter tides this year i decide to bit the bullet and go meet it during the daytime,
Wow, great fun, there were people waiting for the tide to withdraw and alot more trying to wade through it,
it sounded like alot of people were supprised by the flooding and were dressed in thier sunday bests,

i pretty much waded through getting wet upto my waist which for the daytime public was fun,
there are still plenty of high tides left this year so i will be going back, not sure if i want to risk my camera as i tend to get pretty much soaked lol

so anyone into wetlook should see if there are any local tidal floodings in their area, i only discovered this on this september, looking along the thames there are quite a few high tides that people can get wet while dressed in street clothes

Sounds like fun.

We do a lot of our shoots on the banks of the Thames now. I've been planning to use the river ever since we moved here and have still not used it for a shoot ! Its fun to go for a swim tho

looking at twickenham its even better for tidal flooding, just google image or flickr search thames high tide etc or your local tidal places
the bbc has a tide page for the following 6 days for all reigons
most women took thier shoes of although a couple of them in flats did get wet, i mostly find if its already raining then they tend not taking them off,
as for going dressed, i never had a problem, i never expected to pass in day time as a woman so if anyone had of asked i was wearing a cocktail dress so i would have said i was at a party or something, maybe i should have hopped for someone to pick me up and throw me in the deep end lol

of course you don't have to go dressed up, just go as yourself and enjoy
around oct 24 is the next high tide worth mentioning in london
in a coupl of years there are a few 7.7 highs, the highest at chiswick i caught was 7.5 and that was thigh high at the lowest walking section, in other words no one would look at you weird if you had to wade through that , deepest? depends how far into the thames you dare go with the strong cuurnts it has, if i was with someone else during the day time then i would have no problem getting completely drenched
in case anyone isn't familiar with tides (really, sploshers?lol) there are two tides a day
