The Great Race - on TV this w/e.
If there's anyone anywhere who's still never seen this classic, it's on UK Channel 5 this Sunday, 10th, 1.40 p.m.

Best pie fight scene ever, and a top choice of outfit too for Natalie Wood

I have always had a lasting memory of the famous pie fight scene since being a kid, but could never remeber what film it was from. Now I am fulfilling a life of messyhood it has been fully revealed in a mountain of creamy pie-ness! Oh, to re-create this scene.......
luv and pies

Even ignoring the famous pie fight, it's actually quite a good "switch-your-brain-off" movie for a wet Sunday afternoon!

I remember seeing this in the cinema (yes, I'm that old though I was a kid at the time) as well as numerous times on TV. It is VERY long for a comedy film and consequently a bit wearing. However, the pie fight is legendary and I am surprised there are sploshers out there who have never seen it in its entirety

I am also that old. I saw it for the first time in what was then my local cinema the Walpole in Ealing Broadway. I remember during the winter months there was always an open coal fire in the foyer!
Since then I have watched it several times over and still enjoy it.

Have to agree wholeheartedly.

Re: The Great Race - on TV this w/e.
after watching this great epic, I have to ask - was the cartoon series "Wacky Races" based on this film, perchance? The similarities are plenty - Miss Dubois's outfit at the start of the race is pure Penelope Pitstop, the Great Leslie - Peter Perfect and Professor Fate - Dick Dastardly - coincidence? Even the cars look like their counterparts. Guess that leaves Peter Falk being Muttley, then he he
