Peterborough Mud Picnic Meet Sat July 31st/Sun Aug 1st 2010

Postby Sploshman » 26 Jun 2010, 14:06

Hi guys.

A few weeks back on the late May Bank Holiday. Me, John/Smiley (from the forums) and his partner went to check out slit/clay pit out in Somesham (about an hour away from Peterborough) and found a beautiful bit of sloppy, creamy mud to play in which was v.deep in places too.

We wanted to do an event down there on Sun 1st August and also thanks to Mud Mad Mel (who comes to some of the UMD meets). We came up with the idea of before having a picnic down at the muddy spot and then having some all out muddy fun afterwards :).

There is also gonna be little drink up in Peterborough on the Saturday night (July 31st) before too if people wanted to make a weekend out of it too (more information about which pub coming in the next week or so).

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO COME DOWN (know i've posted this to some of you guys on Facebook in the past few weeks or so) AND JOIN US IN THE FUN AND WILL PUT UP SOME MORE INFORMATION IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO TO DO WITH SATURDAY NIGHT PUB LOCATION, HOTELS, TRANSPORT TO GET THERE ETC :).

LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO COME DOWN GUYS :) AND CHECK OUT THE PICS OF THE MUDDY SPOT I'VE POSTED ON HERE (IT DOESN'T DO IT FULL JUSTICE AS YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT AS IT REMINDS ME OF THE INFAMOUS BARLING MUD PITS THAT DIDS, CHANTS AND CEDE USED :))

Check Noob's Google map page (where i saw this in the first place) and look for UK Slit, sand and clay 9/10 on there.

Hi Sploshman,
What can we say....thank you. And to everyone else... if you like mud you have to try and make this. Sadly, we've got the kids that weekend. But, with a free day today, we saw you're post this morning when we woke up and thought, sod it - it's only an hour away from us - let's go and take a look. And WOW! It was the best mud experience we've ever had! Thought we'd post one more pic of the mud itself to help you out Sploshman - sunny day too, so shows it off in all its glory a bit more. More pics of the actual fun will follow hopefully once we've downloaded them.....

Saw the couple of pics you posted on UMD guys and that mud looks fabulous. Was there a good location to clean up/wash off? If so, I'm definitely coming!

Hello,

It is very easy to wash off at this location, you have a choice of two near by lakes to wash off in, the lake i washed off in was nice a shallow and got deeper the more you moved in. I would sugguest you bring beach sandles to walk from the mud pit to the lake, as the ground it a little stoney. :D

I've already shown Dids pics of this Chants hun and he said it definatley looks like Barling :).

He asked me for the directions for the spot.

Smiley is right guys about the two lakes to wash off from (BUT DO bring some sandles as the stones are a nightmare LOL)

Exastris, Chants, Rich and Brick (along with others) we would love to see you there :).

Messy Naughty - shame you can't make it down but thank you for the picture (the mud looks even better down there now :D) and also the support and can't wait to see the rest of your pics from your visit down there (hope you went fully under in the slop :)). My pleasure in helping you guys out :)

There is a pathway that makes it easy access to get into the mud and hopefully be doing another one before the weather gets cold again in Sept hopefully.

Will be putting up the pub we will be meeting at on the Saturday and also hotel/B and B's to stay in later on today guys.
