Used engine oil

This starts off as a bit of a ramble buts gets there!

In addition to trains, buses, football and gunging girls, another of my interests are old British cars and I have just bought another preservation project to join the Mk V Cortina, a 1968 Morris Oxford.

Its been stood for some years and not run so I thought it would be sensible to drain off the old oil and change it before starting it up. Watching the thick, black, gloopy 20W50 slurping out of the sump and into the drain can gave me a mental picture of Hayley, or Gilly, or any of our favourite sploshees stood underneath, dressed in a sexy white or pastel coloured outfit, hair and make up immaculate, white underwear, heels etc, getting covered in this thick, black, oily mess!

Anyone ever used it?

Dont think anybody has ever used real sump oil.

Though I'm sure Bill can tell you some storys about the Muckanic, where I think they used black treacle if my memory
is still working.

Hi,

yes, it has been used, but please consider very carefully before playing, used engine oil can be CARCENOGENIC, (spelling?) as many a motor mechanic with skin cancer has found to their cost.

Sorry to put a bit of a dampner in, but that's my understanding of the case.

That is true. It is dangerous stuff. Hay has used it at home in smallish quantities along with axle grease then regretted it as it is also a bastard to get off.

Just drained the gearbox oil from my landy,loads of bits in it,if i were u i would filter it first before using it,nothing like a bit of sheared metal to put a spanner in the works (excuse the pun)

Hi, We have used real used engine oil. It looked great as Jean wore a white wedding dress to ruin with it.
No photos as this was many years ago when we had to develop our own black and white prints if we wanted to feature anything like this.
The oil took days to come out of Jean's hair completely despite using Swarfega and three bottles of shampoo on the night. She also smelt like a garage workshop for days after.
It was good but the black treacle variant looks just as good if not better and its a damn site easier to clean off.

Sounds like you could have saved the trouble and just gone with the Swarfega and three bottles of shampoo! Talking of Swafega I worked in a garage many years ago that had a great big tub of the stuff - must have been about the size of an 18 gallon keg. I wonder if they still do it in industrial quantities like that, I always fancied trying to dunk the garage owners daughter in that barrel. In fact the idea still crosses my mind occasionally over 30 years later

I've gotten a similar colour, but with a very slippery consistency by using methylcellulose gunge made with black poster paint from ELC in the hot water...
I'm sure you could add more raw material (powder) for a thicker but still slippery consistency, and that it would work just as well with Natrasol based gunge too.

As Bill mentioned I have dared to use old engine oil as well. Not a huge amount but as I poured it over my head it did, as Jean found out, take a very long time to remove. The axle grease in the fringe was a bit of a mistake too! However, I did love the smell. Mmmm! Made me think of greasy oil-covered bikers in leather...

Anyway...(concentrate, girl)....I have also recently tried the Natrasol version, ie black gunge (as those who read my bit on the blog know). It looks great and is wonderfully slippery like oil. Shame it doesn't smell the same but it washes off instantly. And you do get that 'everything going dark' feel when you pour it over your head. So, yes, I thoroughly recommend it especially if you don't like the stickiness of treacle. Mind you, I like that too...

Planning a new photo set by the way...

In the meantime here's me and the black gunge.

Oil's well that ends well...what am I saying?

Always loved nice black gunge Margarine mixed with black paint makes a very convincing axle grease ....and washes out with plenty of hot water.

That's an amazing all-white outfit - did it even wash out of that? (..and the shoes?)
