Is it just me or do girls age better now?

MM, was thinking this today, I dont know if its just me but does anyone else agree that women in general seem to remain attractive, fanciable and, therefore sploshable for much longer than they used to do.

I mean, when I was a kid, growing up in industrial Lancashire in the 60s, a woman in her 40s then looked quite old, but now there are lots and lots of women in their 40s today who are outstandingly attractive. My boss at work is about 46 but you could take her for 30, yesterday she was wearing this tight black dress and really looked so hot :D

Hayley is another example and, veering off topic slightly, I think also that some women get better looking as they get older. Two examples off the top of my head, Tess Daly. The first time I saw her was on some Saturday morning kids programme about 13 years ago and I didnt think she was anything special, a bit skinny for me, but now she is just incredibly sexy and in my top 10 splosh fantasy targets, she looks unbelievably fit in those evening dresses on SCD.

Another one is Kym Marsh, Michelle on Coronation Street. Again, when she started in Hear'say (shite werent they) I thoght she was the least attractive of the three girls in it but now she really looks fit. (what a wasted opportunity on Corrie last Friday when she had a fight with Rosie Webster at a party. If I had been the scriptwriter it would have been a no holds barred, clothes ripping, pie throwing, messy catfight with Rosie getting reduced to just her high heels and tied up to a chair whilst a barrage of gloopy mess was slammed into her face repeatedly)

I've noticed the same thing; perhaps it's because we are growing older ourselves. Women much older than us still look old to us but those who are now the same as us or even a bit younger still look attractive. Its all in the eye of the beholder!

Mr Angry, if you look on the Corry website there's a clip of Rosie in a black basque

I think men and women are more able to stay younger looking, it's all dependent on our lifestyle choices. I used to look much older just a few years ago. That photo in my profile is less than a week old, and people think I'm in my thirties. The fact is today I turned 54!!! There are guys my age who also look young, and others much younger who look quite old, same for the women. Marlicious looks quite young too, you'd never know her oldest daughter will be turning thirty!!! Some of this is genes, but some is choices. I suppose I could have a 'normal' haircut for a guy my age and wear more 'appropriate' clothing. That alone would add 10 years to me! I also think playing with food and in puddles keeps the kid in each of us alive! :)

I agree with this and i think the reason is there are no *rules* now as to how a lady should dress in her late 30s 40s. I still wear my jeans over knee boots and rock t shirts and have recently dyed my hair with a big purple streak, and im 39, years ago i would have been wearing darby and joan clothes and have my hair scraped back in a bun :)

I shall be 54 in three weeks time and am going through my annual angst about dressing too young (and stupidly) and my beer and burger lifestyle. I am however very lucky in a number of respects. Firstly I work with people who tend to be younger than me so I take in interest in what interests them (whilst not pretending I am an expert or in some cases that I even like it). Secondly I go to a pub full of people in similar old age denial! Being a rock/biker pub there are people who haven't changed 'their look' for 40 years! Can't really say I have, apart from the hair falling out!

As for Splosh!, I agree entirely that some of the 'older' models still look fabulous. Custard is obviously good for the skin! I think the silly nature of it helps too. It can be childish and so keeps you young in spirit. I know when I meet the BDSM crowd they appear a lot more 'grown up' than me, and I am always getting odd looks when I point out what fun we have on our forum compared to theirs.

Bill, if there weren't pictures of you in a nuns outfit/stripy tights, etc, I would be a little bit sadder! Please wear something ridiculous for your birthday!

Funny you should mention that cos the nun's outfit (as seen on Facebook) was for a Halloween Disco at the pub - and they are having another this year! So looks like I need to spend some time on Ebay. My birthday is on a Wednesday so certainly won't be dressing up till the weekend, if then.

Thank you for the nice comment, Mr Angry. I have to say I hate getting older and finding myself slowly turning into my late Mum! I think that's why I have had a renaissance (clever word, eh?) in my interest in sploshing. Everything was just getting too serious and middle aged! I spent a lot of the spring and summer with business people and they bored me to tears. It made me want to behave very badly indeed right there and then.

I think the reason we old birds are sexier is that we are doing things cos we want to. Whether it's wearing leather, watching rock bands, sploshing or collecting vintage prams (like a woman I met recently), we are not longer playing at stuff cos it's fashionable or trying to impress people. We have found things we love, do them and don't care what others think. However I think it takes a more mature bloke to appreciate that. Some young guys might find it a bit scary!

As far as aging physically is concerned...ohhh I could point out so many things that have changed in the last 20 years! I am quite lucky in having pale skin that doesn't wrinkle as much as those outdoor types but I have somehow developed 'hamster cheeks' since I hit my 40s. Sometimes when I smile you can hardly see my eyes at all! Sorry, going into vanity mode now!

Bill is right though when he says it's about attitude. I know girls in their 20s who look older (and dare I say less sexy) than me cos they are soooo serious. They walk about hunched, the weight of the world on their shoulders, constantly worrying about relatively unimportant things. Then they get cosmetic surgery to take away their worry lines when what they really need is more silly fun!

Bollocks to Botox - it's pie fights that prevent aging!

There is a girl at my work who can only be about 28 and she has pumped herself full of botox. Another girl asked her where she got hers done, and the first girl denied it, to which she got the reply 'Stop talking shit, love, if I've had it then you *definitely* have!' Bwahahahaha! I'm sticking to pies and sex, thanks!

Definitely- I've always had a bit of a thing for attractive older women anyway, (I had a couple of girlfriends in my 20s who were 8-10 years older than me), but women definitely seem to age much better today than I remember them doing when I was a kid (....and often much better than we men often do- I went to a school reunion recently, and the contrast was amazing- quite a lot of us had turned into balding, slightly overweight middle-aged men, contrasting strongly with many of the women who I swear looked hotter in their early 40's than they did when I last saw them aged 18-20...Am I jealous? Yes!!!! )

I'm a bit of an amateur historian, and recently spent some time looking at a collection of old family photos, trying to identify people in them- and a lot of the women in them seemed to look much older than they actually turned out to be when I looked up the dates of birth etc.

I reckon there's a lot in what Josie and Hayley say about the way women are dressing and behaving the way they want to, rather than the way society people might feel is appropriate for their age.

At work, we always need temporary staff in over the summer, and we usually end up employing quite a few students on their summer break from college. This year's crop of students temping for us included a pair of stunning blonde sisters in their early 20's- they also happen to be the daughters of one of my female colleagues, and trust me, mum (mid-40's) is still every bit as gorgeous as her daughters. It's been hell- I'm amazed I've got any work done in the last couple of months....
