Rookie Disaster! Doh lol

Postby Jem » 28 Sep 2009, 23:18

Hi everyone,

Im very new to Wam and just trying out things for the first time lol

So today I had a go at making my second Wam video, I wanted ago with gunge!

I didnt have any gunge so thought, pfft I can make gunge!

So got some flour, water and food colourings and made Jemgunge! :D

It looked great and worked a treat....

It all went horribly wrong when it came to cleaning up.. Some strange science thingy made the gunge turn to rubber! it completely solidified....in my hair

so yes spent an hour in the bath trying to get it out my hair

Nobody try this ha ha

You aren't the first and won't be the last to go for this cheap option and regret it. It looks good and feels okay but unless washed out immediately it sets solid. Once it does, it's a nightmare to get out of hair (wherever that hair may be!).

Some have posted in the past saying that oily things like smooth peanut butter can help disintegrate the lumps. Certainly cake mix which is basically flour, water, egg and marge is much less harmful presumably cos it is 'fattier'.

I have told the story before but the pie fight scene in The Muckanic was shot by Aquantics using flour-and-water pies in the baking sun. The dough set rock hard in the girls' hair and they were literally screaming trying to get it out.

For gunge your best options are cake mix or natrasol depending on whether you prefer thick or slimy! We seriously hope it hasn't put you off, Jem!

I second Bill. Jem! We use cake mix sometimes which is great and comes out no problem at all... unlike batter mix which has no oil in! Not meaning to make presumptions, but mix up some of your mix you made with some oil and see if it sticks in your down-there hair, which you can just trim off if it happens before you decided to pour it all over your head!

Its the sort of silly thing I generally get myself into anyway teehee

Glad to hear you managed to get the gunge out of your hair- that's a great pic though, looking forward to seeing the results of your next session- hopefully without any gunge disasters

Ooops, not a good thing to use flour and water mix, I tried it once when I was about 17 and lived with my parents. They went out for the day, I , like you, used flour, water and blue food colouring.
Luckily I didn't put any in my hair, but I wrecked a t-shirt and pair of shorts. later my parents asked why I didn't wear that particular shirt any more and I had to make up a reasonable sounding excuse (I forget now what I said).

Later in life I found out that people used to stick wallpaper to walls with flour-and-water paste when they decorated!
We'll have to drink our way out of this

I've found that you can use flour only if it's premixed thoroughly with a LOT of either oil or dish soap. (baby shampoo works and won't sting the eyes) If you scrimp on the oil or soap though, it will stick to hair. As long as there is enough soap or oil in the mix, it just rinses right off!

I agree though, that the 'proper' gunge is probably the best way to go in the future, and yes, your photo is awesome! You are indeed a turbo hottie! :)
