In my student days, many moons ago when I had lots of hair, I used to drink cider (sometimes mixed with Guinness ). Now that I am older & wiser I believe that it may actually cause the plague .

@Mike, I do now have some hair, albeit grey, as I have stopped shaving my head and started shaving my chin again, so no more beard!

In my student days, many moons ago when I had only slightly more hair, I used to drink cider -almost exclusively mixed with Mackeson. Now that I am older and wiser I no longer believe that it may actually cause the plague. I still drink cider and Mackeson - it's part of growing old disgracefully.

I've never shaved my head, and gave up shaving my chin in 1974, so have plenty of beard.

I should be careful about venturing too far into the West Country if you're going to label cider as a 'chemical aid'.

I too have no problem growing old disgracefully without the use of 'chemical aids' (don't drink and drive, etc), but let's face facts, they can be enjoyable, and we've both been seen consuming them at Bristol Splunches and London Meets, and we're both likely to be seen doing it again in the not too distant future.
