Rather disturbingly, that *was* the précis!
I suppose the shortest summary I can think of is ..... for best results:
- First identify which systems you'll play out on and pick the frame rate and standard to fit.
- Progressive scan gives best movement representation without 'jaggies' or phantom edges.
- Slow shutter speed (e.g. 1/50s) gives least flicker or strobing problems compared with high speed (eg. 1/300s).
- Screen grabs will probably need gamma values adjusting to take account of gamma correction of video signal that isn't the same with stills.
That's about as short as I can get it but does rather lose a lot of the detail on what you actually need to do and think about.
C'est la vie!

Fascinating post CW, really interesting! Thanks! It also explains the annoying "jaggedness" effect I've seen on videos of moving trains taken on modern digital camcorders (especially noticable with a train of Mk1s, with all the window frames, grab-handles, etc, going past at speed).

My pleasure D.M.O. - Education is the name of the game.
I know what you mean about the Mk1s too but I'd rather have those than the modern automatic door versions - the sound effects you get from genuine 1950s slam-door stock can't be beaten IMO - very evocative (...and there's the sliding windows just big enough to accommodate a camera too).

Yeah trains are ok but c'mon its not that practical for a set with naked women being flanned and stripped??? i say less trains more Custard!!!!
plus how can you gunge a model hanging out of a mk 1 window travelling at 70mph??
I've upgraded to a "Woody Status" could you?

Now *that's* what I call a challenge!LoL. I'm sure someone will find a way one day! (In fact, it sounds like just the sort of wacky plot that a certain Mr Shipton might have a go at some day!)
I think you will find that the vast majority of, if not all, B.R. Mk. 1 carriages are now to be found on heritage railways where the maximum permitted speed tends to be of the order of 20-25 mph. That should make it a whole lot easier.

Re: Rogets Lingerie 'The Battle'
For a high speed gunging you would need two neighbouring compartments. Put the model in the one nearer the back of the train and tell her to stick her head out of the window, you get in the other compartment and fire the gunge out through the window. Let the slipstream do the rest!
Mike, don't they use Mk1s on steam hauled enthusiast's excursions?

Most of these are now Mk2s: there are but a handful of Mk1s on steam-hauled specials, primarily catering vehicles and the loco group's support coach - how long this can continue given the approval and ongoing main-line standard maintenance costs remains to be seen.

Strangely, the same thought had crossed my mind after I'd posted, though I couldn't be bothered to edit! The Light Railway Order might (or might not) make it easier to accomplish.

Ah - the ingenuity of the members of the Splosh forum strikes again! Mind you, the results could be a little variable!

Mike.
Sad but true. I fear it may be the paperwork costs rather than the real cost of maintenance that could kill them off. Provided they're properly maintained, there's no real reason I can think of for disallowing them but the cost of proving that may be their downfall.

Speed limits under a Ligh Railway Order (or Transport & Works Act '92 Order as it is now) are generally of the order of 20-25 mph.
