Bonus update: Victorian bathing suit ahoy!

Postby DungeonMasterOne » 28 May 2009, 20:14

Saturation Hall presents:

The Victorian Bathing Suit
Sister Graves is hosed down in a 19th century bathing suit!

Hand-made from a genuine 1895 American bathing suit pattern, Sister Graves gets to test what has to be one of the ultimate wetlook outfits, by being thoroughly hosed-down while wearing it!

This little set (it's only just over 200 photos) is the first of several bonus extra updates we'll be adding to the Members Lounge over the coming months, in celebration of now having more than 50,000 photos on our site. The bonus sets will be released between the main ones, which continue on our regular update schedule.

Enjoy!

Would you believe we had these costumes (there are two of them) made up two years ago, this is just the first chance we've had to use one. Even taken them to the sea coast at Great Insmouth twice, and on both occasions the weather conspired to render bathing impractical. We're a hardy lot up here in God's Own County, but we're not *that* hardy! :D

Does anyone else remember the episode of "Spitting Image" that ended with the "Country Diary Of An Edwardian Lady Mud Wrestler"? Basically two women in rubber masks and period dresses rolling about in a mud pool while the credits rolled.

I'd love to see someone sploshed in a proper female pirate outfit!

I like it too. Would suit me for paddling in the sea! Don't panic, I am joking.

Incidentally, you may recall us asking you some time back about the whereabouts of old fashioned nurse uniforms (the sort with separate stiff collars and cuffs). Well, we found some in excellent condition. They are too big for Her Abroad though so we are looking for a Matron for our 60s hospital! Might be a job for Candy...

Yes! I do remember that but couldn't remember the context - thanks for the explanation. (My mum was there too so I was unable to let my eyes pop out on stalks as she tut-tutted about it and I had to engage in conversation so only got brief glimpses, unfortunately.) I'd love to see it again.

Thanks for all the replies, and glad everone liked the bathing suit!

Hopefully at some point we will actually get to have someone go in the sea wearing it, we'll also no doubt be putting it through its paces in custard at some point too. The seamstress who made it for us knew exactly what the ladies would be getting up to while wearing it, so its made to be able to handle a thorough sploshing!
