Tiswas Night 2009 - non-sexual messy event in East Midlands

Postby Peter Thomas » 12 Apr 2009, 12:32

Tiswas Night 2009 will be taking place in July, most likely on a Saturday evening. I'll tell you a confirmed date when I find out!

It will not be held at the Horseshoe Inn this year, but at The Cannon pub - 71 Cannon Street, Wellingborough, Northants, NN8 4DJ. See here for location.

The Cannon is run by the same people who run the Horseshoe. Plus we're all heading down to the Horseshoe for a big drink-up when the Cannon has to close. The Cannon is smaller than the Horseshoe, but it has a few real ales on tap. Loads of Horseshoe regulars drink there, there's quite a bit of 'overlap' between the two pubs, which are only 5 mins walk away from each other.

Don't wanna be a party-pooper or lecture you too much, but must stress that this is a non-sexual event where comedy and games are the order of the day. There will be LOADS of gunge and pies, but it's not the usual Splosh kind of thing. We had a couple of people at Tiswas Night 2008 who thought it was a license to get all kinky, but please, it's just not like that! I know 99% of you completely understand anyway!

If you missed last year's effort, which featured the fantastic Candy Custard getting a full-on gunging in a magic sketch, the actual Tiswas Cage and a massive gunge fight at the end, it can be viewed on YouTube here:

Oh yeah, this year, we're aiming to film the event in High Definition! And I won't forget my lines (probably).

Remember it well.

The Mess Club have a set of foot stocks we can bring as I recall they were used on the show too.

I have been involved in mainstream entertainment for several years so if you need any help please let me know and we are quite happy to help out as mainstream professionals though not as the MessClub

Careful where you advertise the event? as this is an 18rated site.

I think they used head and hands stocks, sometime in the 1979-80 series, IIRC.

Whilst this is an 18-rated site, I am sure Peter's advice that this is more of a 'family' event is perfectly understood.

Thanks for the heads-up, Peter. I will try and make it this year. It sounded a lot of fun - and I can bore for Britain about the show!

That's true, and I'm open to accusations that I'm soliciting the splosh scene into coming along, but the thing is, news of the event always gets out to the fetishists anyway. My view is that it's best for me to put the news out before it turns into Chinese whispers, 'cos I don't want anyone turning up to the pub expecting something like Silly Gilly's House. Especially as some kids may be present. There were some personal questions raised to me by the bar managers when the Daily Express erroneously described me as a "splosh enthusiast" recently! So yeah, I'll bang on about the non-sexual nature, but I don't mean to patronise...

As I've always maintained since the Tiswas Reunited cage application debacle, I'm not against WAMmers, and I think there's a lot of common ground where we can put on a great night (cf: Candy Custard's role in last year's magic sketch). I make sod all money from Tiswas Night, I actually spend money on it. I do it for the love of it, and it's great to see folks under the age of 30 enthusing about Tiswas! If people want to bring some props in and/or have a go at comedy sketches, that'd be fantastic.

So really, come down if you're into the love of the comedy and surprise factor of pies/gunge. Having met some of you at meets, I know that's the case with a lot of you. Oh, and enjoy a drink with us too. If the night brings in good takings, we're always ensured another crack at it next year.

Thanks! I don't wanna come across as being anti-WAM or sneery about the fetish. I'm incredibly liberal-minded. I do watch a lot of Leonmoomin's work, it's fascinating how he gets away with gunging girls in public. I love that.

Excellent, I'd love to hear your stories! It gets lonely being the sole Tiswas anorak at that pub, but as soon as the theme tune kicks in and we're chucking slop over grown adults dressed as flowers, everyone becomes a fan.

Fantastic to see this coming back for another year. Last year i think i was a little nervous on attending, but now i know what to expect i will defiantly be hoping to come along again and joining in the action. Peter i was thinking of the possibility of coming along in a outfit, like batman or spider man or something, would anyone else be interested in doing something similar? Or is this acceptable for the night?. :D

For anyone here who has not been i can truly recommend it, Peter puts a hell of a lot of work into this show.

I hope you will be accepting contributions to the event, i would be interested in donating some money for gunge to the cause.

Many thanks

Right, we have this date pencilled in:

Friday 3rd July 2009

This is pretty much definite, I'll know by early May anyway!

Not many folk know that we do these nights totally non-profit. Well, the pub makes a profit, us lot at TiswasOnline just get a venue for the night and we have to buy the gunge and costumes. It's a fair agreement, because hardly any pub/club in the country would allow us to get away with so much sillyness!

We'll be launching a "gunge fund" appeal on TiswasOnline next month, as we'd really like to achieve a target of 5kg of natrosol powder (or more), plus a couple of Phantom costumes as the ones from last year were pretty much wrecked!

Many thanks to those from Splosh forums so far who have been in contact with me to help out already!

Given that us lot at the Cannon/Horseshoe are rather partial to fancy dress at almost any time, you'd be fine mate! I've turned up to the pub dressed as Mr Incredible before, as well as George W Bush, a prisoner, Amy Winehouse and even a ballerina! Whatever you wear, remember that it may get stained, so don't bring anything you particularly treasure!

I think you were one of the folk who saw my stress levels rise last year, am I right? I think between that meal at the Red Well and the Compost Corner sketch, my heart was going 240bpm with all the chaos!

This year, no script as such, just semi-improvisation. Had a fantastic suggestion a for a new game from one regular on this forum, glad he's helping out!

Ah, so true. Now I'm mortgaged up to the hilt, with half a year of heavy Inland Revenue drainage on top of that, I am not in much of a position to spend too much! As always, I do end up bringing up at least 2kg of Natrosol powder, and even getting the costumes sorted, but I will be putting a NoChex button on TiswasOnline next month so we can fund our need for a good amount of slop! Last year, we had over 5kg of Natrosol which gave us around 50 buckets of gunge, and at least 50 people were drenched in the stuff. We wanna outdo that this time!

Dunk Tank Dave has a supply of cheap Natrosol powder would be worth calling him as he has got a bulk quantity to fill his dunktank and has some left over.

Aw, nooo! Amy's not able to make it either. She was going to co-present with me!

Thanks MessClub for that advice. I'll be in contact with Dave some time after next week, when I've got some money in my bank account at last!

I've come up with a plan to raise money for the gunge and costumes. I don't want to be seen begging, so I'm thinking of selling a guaranteed ticket for the Cage at a tenner each. And possibly DVDs each of the 2007 and 2008 footage for a fiver. Plus this year's footage also for a fiver. Just an idea at this stage...

Can ask around for female presenters if you like...promise they won't get their tits out! (Thinks: Mouse presenting would be interesting...)

By the way, be a BIT careful with the selling DVDs idea. Even though it is a public event, strictly speaking selling DVDs is illegal unless you have got the BBFC to agree that they do not require classification. I know this is a very finicky point but you wouldn't want to get into trouble over something that small. Might be worth e-mailing them to see what they say.

I would like to make a few suggestions if i may,

1:) Could i recommend a unlucky raffle, people buy a raffle ticket on the night for someone they want to see mega gunged (maybe in beans, mushy peas ect), tickets could be set at £1 each.

2:) mucky bingo: everyone who wants to play buys a bingo ticket, who ever reaches a full house can pick a fellow player to be gunged, once again tickets could be set at something like a pound.

3:) How about a simple donation bucket where people can contribute money on the night it's self, walk around with it, failure could result in a pie in the face!

4:) A mucky auction, a willing model stands in front of the crowd and people bid against each other in order to gunge the model for them selfs. Maybe have a signed picture chucked in.

All these ideas are based on giving on the night, but im sure people will be understanding that the event costs money and it's for non profit.

Hope this helps.
