My remark there was a reference to the 'readers letters' page of newspapers such as The Times, when some old fogie would write condemning the young people of the day for their obsession with sinful things such as rock 'n roll! The letter would invariably be signed "disgusted - Tunbridge Wells". So I thought I'd take the piss!

You might like to consider Fetlife. I am not a member but Hayley is and it they seem an OK bunch (albeit mainly American).

On Facebook I try to steer a path between telling people what I am up to in Sploshworld (what I am editing, with the occasional non-rude pic) and bollocks about what has happened in the pub or when I'm going (for the pub fraternity who are also my friends there). I have no desire to twitter or tweet about what sandwich I have just eaten or how the kitten slept last night, just to keep both sploshers and pub-goers up to speed about stuff. However I expect to get removed at some point for 'misuse' even though I am only talking about my job like anyone else.

Sorry to hear about your problems, Candy, but I don't think this marks the end of social networking. I have just read how much Twitter is worth!

Facebook, myspace, etc. Its a grey area for them, so its better to pull it than leave it.

Same problem as utube all over again. Both myspace and Facebook are public, so you can look at the page without having to log in.
Thus people under 18 can look.

Isn't the idea of any sort of "social networking" site successfully filtering "sexual suggestiveness" more than a little counter-intuitive? Since when have we decided that sexuality is not a part of our 'social consciousness'?

Monetizing all this Web 2.0 stuff (which, presumably, is what Facebook et al need to do) seems to be all about maximising numbers, and nothing about people - a recipe which seems doomed to failure. After all, imagine how many commercial web-sites there are that have no "drug use, nudity, or other graphic or sexually suggestive content" - and then ask yourself how interesting such a limited microcosm of the real world would be!

And yep im on fetlife already. Its a bit crap though tbh and I keep getting chatted up by non sploshing doms on there when im really not interested. sigh

unless pretty much every one of my facebook friends joined it and used it like an everyday facebook rather then its not going to be the same

I am considering just removing my profile - the 'misuse' warning ive got is for sending spam, when ive never done any such thing I just reply normally to messages I get like with any other email system... plus ive not really used it very much recently anyway. Trying to decide if its worth the hassle!

spiny yes theres fetlife but its just not the same.

I like combining 'normal' life with the sploshing stuff on facebook - seeing what people are up to and catching up in general, but fetlife its ALL fetish stuff 24/7, which frankly irritates me. I like social networking sites more for 'people watching' and.... er... being sociable! rather than perving. If I want to perv I will download porn or pop over here to this forum lol

facebook was the perfect balance between 'normal' life and general chit chat, and the odd bit of fetish stuff with it being nice that me and all my facebook friends have that common ground of enjoying sploshing..... before they started harassing me over 'suggestive' pics - not posting nudity etc was no problem and understandable and I kept within the rules but now any one of my pics could called 'suggestive' so that kinda ruins it a bit.

so in short - fetlife = too much and facebook = not enough

for me anyway.
