RESULTS!: London Meet -Thursday December the 11th 2008 !!..

Chat, flirt and fantasise about everything wet and messy

Postby BillShipton » 13 Dec 2008, 11:48

I meant I was interested in knowing what was talked about not whether you were talking about me. I am sure there were plenty of better things to do. Hoping to hear some amusing banter to entertain the forum members but apparently not...

So now it's a private meeting with all the conversations/activities only to be known by those who go, Richard? A sort of WAM masons!! Will have to go to the next one in my journalistic capacity then and to report back for the vast majority who couldn't attend....

I'm agreeing with Bill....I intend to try to get to a meet when commitments allow (perhaps even book a RL session at somewhere like the Splosh studio :D ), but in the meantime, it would be good to have a report.

Sorry Bill, I couldn't resist the temptation from the way you framed the question  . So don't be so bloody grumpy!
Basically, lots of beer was drunk, lots of rubbish was talked (as usual) but there were a few sensible conversations, most of which I can't remember the details of :( . Mostly though it was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends, make new ones and chat about what we'd been doing lately & future plans. Another useful opportunity was to discuss and recommend favourite websites and give feedback to the producers & site owners.

I don't do amusing banter :( and my memory is fading so I can't remember other people's funnies; I think my new beard may be sapping my strength  . Do you have that trouble?

It's life that is sapping my strength (not to mention the complete cunts at AOL who have just signed me up and charged me for an AOL broadband package I never ordered!). The beard just keeps the drips off my shirt.

Sorry to sound grumpy but I am just trying to make this forum entertaining for everyone.

In fairness there were no amazingly funny things to report back on. If there were then I missed them - as is my wont, on occasion !

I could relate some of the half amusing comments I made some of which were even worthy of a smile but nevertheless engendering bonhomie !
If I could remember the funnies others had made then I would gladly do so, if an out of context witticism is what everyone wants then I will take notes next time !

To call it a private Meet and describe its attendees WAM masons is pretty unhelpful. There is nothing clandestine . . . why on earth would there be ?

Everyone is welcome and always has been, a few ground-rules perhaps but most Munches or Meets have them.

It is certainly not a case of ' what goes on tour, stays on tour ' mentality, as has been evidenced by previous threads on the aftermath of other Meets over the last four and a half years.

Anyway, if anyone is interested I had a conversation about African drumming and rythms which then crossed the sea to other places while also those same rythms developing independently elsewhere. For instance, a very European waltz 3/4 time can be found in faster tempos if you break down some other beat patterns from other cultures, but to us it is still essentially waltz time. There was more . . . .

In other news I talked a lot about my football team's progress, or lack of, with someone else and about their football team's similar predicaments. It should be pointed out that the possessive noun is to imply the role of supporter as opposed to a closer affiliation with the respective clubs.

It was great to see Gungedlulubelle along for the first time with her partner, who had previously come along to a Meet last year. He and I then discussed Scandinavian metal, in various sub genres ( Folk metal and Battle metal ) for a while and agreed that Amon Amarth were a fantastic power riffing band. I still maintained that Korpiklaani's violinist looked like John Peel in a cassock on their Wooden Pints video.

I wore a sober blue Anthill mob T-Shirt in place of my missing Jimi Hendrix Club Shirt ( see avatar ) . . . much missed and somebody suggested it had run off with Noise's Tea-Cosy. I hope they are very happy together and realise they have upset those nearest and dearest to them. I only hope one day they can find it in themselves to get back in touch.
At which point I decided to drown my sorrows in one more coffee for the conversational road. After my set of early starts that week I thought it prudent to begin on the beer a little later in the evening instead.

It was also nice to see again those who had made this Meet after a long absence for whatever reason. Everyone just got on with the important business of chatting and drinking and socialising !

I nearly didn't recognise Richard with a beard . . . I thought he had a little of the Gallic about him . . . n'est pas ? It must have been his blackberry. I have always wondered if living that close to France was dangerous . . .

Easy mate, that was one of the most amusing posts i've read on this forum for ages! Clearly I wasted the evening talking about our groups mutual interest rather than music!!!
Cheers to you and Smiley for organising; look forward to catching up again in the New Year.

Postby LondonMeet » 15 Dec 2008, 18:43

Hello,

Well it's turning into a bit of a tradition to post a Card for each meet, so here is the latest card!

Andy, don't take up so much space next time! :D :D

It was another good meet up. Stayed much longer than I had planned as had a big shoot to organise for Saturday. Thats why I haven't posted on here yet, bloody knackered.

Was good to touch base with DunkTankDave, Gungedlulubelle and another person (forgetting stage name) who I'd never met before. Then catch up with some of the regulars.

Looking forward to the next one.

Yes I can vaguely remember people tapping out various rhythms with their fingers on the tables and talking about Chinese octaves with notes missing :? , then Wamadeus giving professional advice and somewhat scurrilous comments about what orchestra members thought of drummers, bass players and conductors  . The one I liked about the latter was "An orchestra is the opposite of a bull; the bull has horns at the front and the arse at the back!".

Oh yes; Andy 250, my beard is considering taking legal action against you for calling it 'mad'. It is doing this in conjunction with its friend cheese which has been similarly accused of insanity by you in the past! i.e. "mad as cheese". Expect a letter from their representatives 'Grabbem, Whackem & Squeezum'.

This was aimed at those who say they'll appear but don't :( .
(Unlike Sploshman who says he won't come then shows up on the night :D :D - good to see you mate!)
