Keeping Warm

Postby GeOrDiE_bOy » 23 Nov 2008, 09:36

Me and Geordie Girl were having a session last night, we had to stop as the big catering size tin of beans was freezing! We had the heating on full in the room but it was the stuff we were using which was cold.

Anyone got tips on warming things up when you have a bucketfull of beans and custard etc? We are going to do the session again tonight so there will prob be pics put up sometime this week.

Tins and cartons can sit on radiators, or put them in the airing cupboard. You can aslo fill sinks, baths with scalding water which by the time it's lukewarm means that the tins or cartons will be at a nice temperature.
Hope that helps, and have fun! :D

Exactly, leave on the radiator for a while.

It works so well with custard that I burned Gilly's bits on Friday!

You can set them on top of the fridge, at the back. Left for a few hours, they will be much warmer than room temperature due to the heat coming off the transfer coils at the back.

You can also microwave smaller portions, and mix them back into the bucket.

Cheers for the replies, the water one sounds like a good idea for the big tins we have.

Obviously, it depends on what your heating is like but we have the wide 'fin' heaters at the studio and you can prop catering cans of beans etc on those very nicely! Like I say, just don't forget them cos they do get hot!

What do you do with buckets? We have a bucket of gunge mixed up at the minute.

How long does the gunge last once mixed ?

We`re planning a messy shoot in a few weeks, had thought of using powered custard so we can mix it with hot water. Same with the gunge was gonna use hot water for that as well.
Any tips guys ?

keeping warm is a sore subject with me at the moment! I have had no heating for a month and now no hot water either since thurs! brrrrr

anyway!

anything I make up myself like natrasol I do with warm water if just before a session, or hot water if its going to be a while before its used

things like custard and porridge need boiling/bloody hot water anyway to thicken - then I stir in some cold to get it to a nice temperature

I make my angel delight, batter mix and cake mixes with warm water too

anything else (choc sauce, spread etc) either gets microwaved or left on a radiator (well back in the days when I had heating anyway...hopefully finally fixed tommorow)

things like trifle and yogurt I just leave out for a few hours to get to room temp...and frozen gateaux too let them not only defrost but get to room temp! oh eggs as well... not pleasant straight from the fridge! eek!

cold things might be a lot nicer in scorching weather, but being in the less than scorchio UK I cant see much chance of that happening!

freezing cold things are NOT good except in small doses... ice cream has its place but not to be covered in (unless its melted and room temp lol), just 'topically applied' to certain areas

You could also wear clothing, assuming it works in with what you are doing. We almost always do. In addition to helping keep us warm, it holds more moisture close to the skin longer.

This was a big problem with us as our splosh room had no radiator and we'd have to mix things up on the sly. We'd crank on a portable radiator and mix things up with warm or hot water. We learnt our lesson the first time we attempted a mini-splosh re: putting things in the fridge!

I also like to keep a towel on the heater for afterwards to snuggle into. If still clothed after the session jump in the shower clothed so you dont get chilly.
