Swimwear would have been too cold. Even in the manure pit a pullover keeps you warm; Uschi, who only wore the blouse and the skirt, got very cold; Steffi and I with our warm cloths could stand the cold longer. Swimwear would have ment an end to the fun after a few minutes...

Both said that at first they did not feel comfortable thinking of wallowing in cow patties. But then they told themselves that cow dung just consists of grass and so they had the courage to just sit down in a cow patty. And than they realized that it wasn´t bad - and after a few minutes they had fun and liked it. Entering the manure pit was another challenge - but once they were in it up to their knees it, too, was o.k. to them. Now they don´t hesitate a second to enter a manure pit )

I don´t know what the models thought really when I first offered the opportunity of doing trash-the-dress-shots, but from the very beginning I mentioned that they would have to swim fully clothed, wallow in mud and cow dung and get coated in paint or oil - and all of them said that they liked the idea very much.

How about making synthetic manure but putting cut grass in a plastic bin with some water and leaving it for a few weeks to rot. It would basically be the same thing but without any of the nasty bugs.

We planned to do that but at the moment the girls were dirty up to their armpits we swam in the manure for about 2 hours (we wanted to celebrate it really slowly to make sure to get good pics) and we all got so cold that we had to stop the action. I literally couldn´t hold the camera any more and the girls were rattling their teeth (now what I mean...)

I think I can convince the girls to "wash" their hair and faces in the feces next summer when enough of our first cd can be sold.

Rotten grass is no substitute to the real stuff - I´m sure )

By the way to combat the cold you could have done the shoot indoors using a paddling pool full of the stuff.

Or another thing you could have done would have been to just cover their heads and faces with it. You could have had the two girls having a fight with it showing handfuls of it in each others faces from a couple of big bowls placed on tables. Then the rest of their bodies would have stayed warm.

I don't know - for me, WAM of any kind without facial or hair coverage just doesn't do it for me...
