Hi

We have discussed the idea of a chatroom before and it would be relatively easy to set up. There are other messy chatrooms around and we wouldn't want to be seen as deliberately competing but I do think this place has a unique atmosphere.

Anyway, happy to hear people's view...

I dont think you would "Competing" Hayley, BUT i must agree with you regarding the "Unique atmosphere"

Personally i really dont think a chatroom would actually benefit this forum as we all seem to say what we want freely on the forums anyway openly.......now getting back to those buses and trains

Dear Sirs and Mesdames,

For purely selfish reasons I am against the idea of a Splosh forum chatroom. I can't type fast enough to keep up with the subject and end up answering the last comment but five or six. Therefore I get frustrated and left behind, so I leave and miss a lot of stuff in which I might be interested (correct word order - seeing Mike in a couple of weeks!).

I also take pride in the correct use of English and can correct and refine my forum posts before I use the 'Submit' button.

Your humble servant,

Richard.

I think one of the distinguishing features of this site is the care and effort some of the posters go to - the same would (of necessity, I suspect) not be reflected in a live chatroom.

Further, I think that the main posters on here are unlikely to be 'live' simultaneously, so a chatroom may not be the success some anticipate.

I also believe that Splosh / WAM is something that has to experienced 'live and in person' - cyber-WAM seems pretty odd to me - surely there's only a certain number of times you can type "And I pick up the custard..." before it wears thin (the concept, not the custard, obviously...). Since there's already a site PM facility (albeit not necessarily live) for people to make real world liaisons, I don't see much of a need for a chat room.

Oh - and remember the UMD live PM system was closed down due to its abuse too - we'd want to avoid a similar experience happening here, right?

Having said all that, and accepting I could be wrong, I think a chat implementation akin to that of the current UMD could be tried - public contributions only, on the assumption that anything worth saying is worth contributing to all participants.
It wasn't that long ago that I'd punch someone in the face when they pissed me off; now I just delete them from Facebook - that'll show the mother-fuckers...

I dont see the point, the forum works well enough, most of us are never in the same place at the same time anyway. I think it would defeat the object.

Andy

I think a Splosh!-chatroom would be okay... I think it's great to chat with the other 'daily posters' in here!

....BUT....

I hate it when, like in some other chatrooms, people go on and on, ONLY to get their Mr. Bean up, and make it burst...

I also think the 'asl-question' should be banned. It is so un-personal, like we are an ordnary brick in the 37th line of our house... And if you give the answer you're an 'M', you won't get a reaction anymore...

So... I'm in for the chatroom... don't you think it's fun to chat with me?

I echo all the views so far.

I don't think we 'need' a chatroom as this forum is very chatty now. Like a lot of you I am not always around at the usual 'chat times' (like late at night) but enjoy PMs and IMs when I am about.

I reckon we ought to have another IM get-together like we did the Xmas before last tho. That was fun.

Oh, and I can't stand the "ASL" question either. I am not a statistic for God's sake.

I had to look up ASL on Wikipedia (or some such place); I can't cope with acronyms or 'textspeak'!

I'll try to keep up with the forum though, they'll probably let me have a laptop when I get put into an old folks home. That won't be for a while though, I still have unfinished business at Miss T's place shortly. :D :D :D Then off to Bristol to comiserate with Mike about grey hair and talk of shoes 'n ships 'n sealing wax and cabbages & kings

'Mr Bean' ... 'ASL' ... 'M' ... I don't think we need a chatroom if it's going to be full of geekspeak.

I'm happy with the forum just the way it is, thank you.

Richard, I don't need anyone to commiserate with me about grey hair - I plan to grow old disgracefully; but I'll happily chat about boots, buses, trains and sploshing in a couple of weeks time.

Mike.

I don't think a chatroom is necessary, they're kind of surpassed by all the instant messaging facilities available in any case. I'm sure a few members have the odd chat through MSN or AIM messenger if they like... besides I've never been a big fan of chatrooms anyway, really.

I'm divided on this one,on the one hand i think it'd be quite good,a chance to get to know the other sides of people, but having been on a couple before they do tend to get a bit one sided(2 or 3 people chatting & ignoring everyone else-RUDE).
I have a similar problem as Richard where it takes ages for me to reply, only cos I type with two fingers, not fast enough to make spelling mistaykes
