I did a feature about the Championships hundreds of years ago for Fiesta. They do indeed use flour and water which can be a bugger if it's a hot day (it dries in your hair and is impossible to remove), and the pies are quite small. They also have to be thrown a fair distance so "good hits" as they would say on another forum are few. The best bits are usually the private battles that (discouraged by the organisers) often take place at closer quarters.
Perhaps we should get teams together next year, but I think participants would find it rather tame mess-wise compared to studio-based private sessions!

Looks like fun, if not exactly what we'd call proper messy.
This looks like a bit of a laugh too - the World Water Bombing Championships. Unfortunately it doesn't involve teams of attractive people tying each other to chairs and then being pelted with water balloons (a new Splosh Summer activity, perhaps?), but does involve a load of people in daft outfits leaping off the diving boards into the pool at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

(all male participants as far as I can tell - there's even one dressed as Elvis!)

I was there!..
A Tiswas-themed team was quickly organised from the TiswasOnline forums, so we dressed as Tiswas characters.
We got to be quarter-finalists.
I'm the guy asking "Am I bleeding?" in that HUTC video (a genuine enquiry, too).
It was also covered on ITV Meridian news on Sunday, and I was interviewed in that, so I plugged my pub's Tiswas Night. Also has us lot in action...

It was tough to remove, and although we could have had hot showers, they warned us that it would just 'bake' there, so it had to be cold. Aaargh!
We brought down shaving foam and paper plates for a bit of Tiswas silliness. The organisers didn't mind, as it was bringing lots of publicity, especially with our sexy little Phantom! She was photographed loads by The Sun newspaper.
Whilst the flour/water mixture is unpleasant, the end result is pure comedy, so I really enjoyed it.

What happened to two hot french maids at the beginning? No sign of them getting messy :-<
