Just been looking at the transcipts of trials at the Old Bailey
in 1674 some minor offender (male) was sentenced to "wear a Blew Apron and be put in the Pillory"
Sounds very humiliating for a fella to be made to wear an item of female clothing and be laughed at and have gunge and food chucked at him
I would love to do that in my best outfit with loads of messy desserts and eggs !
Sounds very horny!!

I know a girl who used to play a 'wench' at medieval fairs all round the country and regularly got put in the stocks and pelted with rotten tomatoes. She told me that in every box of fruit there was always one that wasn't soft enough and she frequently ended up with a black eye!

Pillory fun and games
I'm a bit of a Samuel Pepys buff and have been reading his diaries on and off for years.
He lived around that time (1670's) and said that to be put in the pillory could sometimes be a sentence to death since the crowd took great delight in throwing everything and anything at the poor bugger.
I think Swift or Danial Defoe were also pilloried for bad debts or writing satire.
Not your usual Splosh type fun at all!

I think sex is better than logic
but I can't prove it.
