Sorry to hear about the sad passing away of Paul.
Not a noted splosher but someone who gave us mags with splosh content.
Anyone any fond memories?
Bill?

Hi

Yes, I heard late last night. Will bore you all with some memories of PR (as he was always called) later on. He was a nice man when I knew him (though I'm told he was a lot more 'dodgy' in the sixties and seventies) and he really never did get over the death of his daughter Debbie - the only member of his family interested in taking on the 'smutty' side of his empire. Debbie died of 'an overdose' but she had been ill for some time herself and most believe she ODed deliberately to save herself a miserable death. She was a great laugh.

Anyway, proper stories later.

Thanks for that, Bill, look forward to more reminiscences.

Hi

Rather that bore you all to death here. I have put together a few funny stories about PR on the blog (www.splosh.co.uk/blog). So hop over there and read them.

I believe Debs may have something to do with Phil Lynott but so did most women including Leslie Crowther's daughter.

Is that a snake in your trousers or are you just pleased to.

Ha - yes, Phil the python Lynott (don't ask why) - it was Leslie Crackerjack Crawther's daughter I was thinking of.
Many thanx

Great stories, Bill.
They make a good obituary for someone who always came over as the definitive Soho likeable rogue. :D

He was always okay with me and had the good sense to leave the magazines to the guys who knew how to run them rather than constantly interfere (so long as there were tits on every spread!).

His only other rule was "no jokes about nuns!". His Mum was a strict Catholic and he refused to have anything about religion in the mag - even naughty nun outfits would have been a sacking offence.

Paul Raymond

Postby matt2matt2002 » 15 Mar 2008, 20:25

I thought I'd bump up this topic since Channel 4 are doing a prog on the great man.
Tonight - Sat. 15th at 23.25

It says in the blurb:
The King of Soho
Paul Raymond's empire's cornerstone was the legendary Raymond Revue Bar, which featured the glitziest and raunchiest nude show around.

I was definitely going to watch it, then got held up, didn't get back home in time. Should have set the recorder!

I'll say this only once.

Etonman, ol' chap - yes they do repeat stuff - but not sure if this will be one of them - if only coz it was itself a repeat. Is there a term for repeats of repeats?
(Reminds me of the wife's cooking!)

I recorded it onto DVD RW (not HD :( ) but it will probably appear on More 4 sometime. I'll keep the disc for a while in case anyone wants a copy though. I had seen it before, some time ago and I don't think anything had been added; it was quite entertaining and informative but I was disappointed not to see Bill adding his contribution.

Actually I did get to be 'porn nerd' in the Daily Mirror!

They made a couple of mistakes in their obit of PR to which I emailed corrections and they printed. They also asked for a funny storiy or two which I supplied.

Not old enough to have worked during Raymond's 60s/70s heyday which is probably what the programme was about. I came in at the twilight of his porn career.
