The commercialization of forums

Chat, flirt and fantasise about everything wet and messy

Postby Hayley » 06 Feb 2008, 11:24

Oh and I missed another Splosh! forum milestone.

There are now over 2025 threads/topics to choose from on the forum. Not bad in under two years, guys!

Thanks

Whilst we're comaring Splosh and UMD, it does seem to me that Splosh is a mainly (but not exclusively) British forum, whilst UMD has a much more American feel.

Was that intentional?

I mean - the majority of regular posters are British, and a lot of the material posted here is from amateur British wam fans.

I don't know how you define "Britishness'.

I suppose even in this global world, the country of origin of a website does tend to attract fellow countrymen - Americans to UMD, Brits to Splosh!.

The only deliberate policy was to make it come over as friendly, flirty and chatty rather than serious and commercial. If they are British traits then yes.

But there was certainly no intention to limit the forum to people from one country, and I hope we don't.

Firstl.... I quiet like our American slime and pies. It actually sticks and covers, unlike your silly watery, clear, 'gunge' pfst! :p

Ok enough Brit-bashing :) Is UMD too commercialized.... meh, I'm fine with it. I know I can go there browse the threads, see a bunch of good freebie photos. Always looking for one or two producers who's work I really like, but am to broke to pay for (Damn college loans). The banners and advertisements never got to me.

But I like splosh cause its got an 'amature' feel to it. I know I can post some pics here and while I may not get a bunch of comments, I know I won't get yelled at cause 'OMG its a penis! I thought I had the only one'.

Plus... woman aren't afraid to come here and cut-up with us which is a welcomed surprise. I'm glad we have umd and splosh... umd for some freebies, and splosh for real conversation.

Plus.... I am learning what lemsips are and all these other wonderful British words and items. Even starting to watch more BBC America!

ROTFLOL!!!!

That's priceless - and yes, I've seen that reaction way too often on a variety of other forums. No interest in seeing them myself, but I'm not going to turn into a pumpkin if I happen to see one. 8)

I like it here because it's actually funny. The folks in other forums tend to be very anal on the subject of gunge, and it gives WAM a bad name.

This is the only WAM forum I frequent, not because I'm a non-wammer*, but it has a lot of love for the humour surrounding this fetish. I've done the odd browse of UMD and found it odd that huge flamewars can occur over something that's borne out of simple slapstick comedy.

Stuff like...
"You should have used orange oatmeal on her, you suck!"
"Those pics sucked, she should have been wearing white tube socks!"
"Ugh, a man being slimed, get that shit out of here, that's put me off!"

...is absolutely off-the-wall barmy.

And those who diss Tiswas for using shaving foam pies, well, they're just clinically insane. (These often tend to be the same people watching four hours of Nickelodeon a day in order to see a potential three seconds of some girl presenter being slimed in between the cartoons.)

Over at TiswasOnline, people tend to break out in hives as soon as WAM is mentioned, as it's got that "weirdo" tag attached to it, which has probably been brought about by the aforementioned humour-free types who have poor social skills.

* = I suppose 'demi-wammer' is better suited to me. I can't say I've never got messy! And I quite enjoyed it too, in retrospect.

Good heavens! Does this mean there are some on this forum who are actually in the wrong place and may be better off elsewhere?

You slimed a clock (or is it the bell?). Or was it a rather well endowed guy called Ben?

I really love the Splosh forum now that its really got going with lots of members. I used to go to the UMD quite a bit before really to see if there were any slapstick style posts about Clown Julie etc also the Yanks do make some good pie scenes. I still go to UMD about once every few weeks to have a quick look at what producers worldwide are doing but here is the place where you can openly chat and express your views and it really suits my taste on UK slapstick fun. I also find the UMD American style hard sell where here I have found myself joining a site after a good set of pics were put up with little plugging. Both sites sort of complement each other and hope they both continue to be successful.
