Sploshing for the disabled

Postby Hayley » 26 Oct 2007, 20:36

Hi

A serious question for once.

I've had a very nice e-mail from a guy who uses a wheelchair and wants to join in the sploshing fun. Does anyone have any practical advice as to how he can achieve this? Bath-based sploshing seems the most obvious idea but I think he'd like another person involved.

I don't pretend to be any sort of expert on disability (I don't even know if that is the politically correct term any more) but I would love it if people could enjoy our sort of fun regardless of physical problems.

All ideas appreciated.

So yes I am a Health and Safety Consultant - so yes you all hate me however I do have a serious reply to this. Well almost serious.

Anyway under DDA (Disabled Discrimination Act) we cannot stop any individual no matter what disability from atempting anything they wish to atempt (Exception - Driving whilst blind even with guide dog)

SOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo If we perform the Risk Assessment on this one I would suggest that cleaning up maybe the most important issue and even with the best will in the world even able bodied people struggle - However putting an advert in a paper for someone to assist in this matter can be ok and he can advertise for male of female helper.

If I was the gentleman I would probably consider this anyway and interview anyone wishing to apply.

The Risk of getting injured or stuck performing a sploshing session on your own is always high its just we should be able to prevent it. Being in a wheelchair adds its own risk and so should be thought out more carfully.

Maybe if there is someone in this gentlemans area who can go round and give him a session would help.

I know this is long and a bit boring but hope it helps in some way.
