The London Meet Result

Postby LondonMeet » 28 Sep 2007, 12:40

Well, here we are again, the post Meet post ! :D

Let us say a very loud and hearty thanks to those who made it along to the meet and we hope your heads aren't hurting this morning like easy_as_s' head is, maybe we should have said a quiet and hearty thanks. instead !

So onto the exciting part. Who was there ? :D 8) :D

The first two names are a gimme or, in University Challenge parlance, your starter for 25 . . . ( Bamber Gascoigne or Jeremy Paxman, take your pick ! )

James
easy_as_
Gungeyboy2000
Peter Thomas
Wamadeus
Driversoft
Malc
Maddy
Piesplatter
Dids
Mercedes
Mel
123 Gunge
Bob K
A. Ridgely
Sotonude
WAM Nick
Sploshman
Mucky Dave
London Wammer
Leon
Lisa
Dave
Hannah
WAM_in_Bed

We may have missed a couple of names off the list, but there was a grand total of 25 people drinking beer and chatting with each other which is a stunning effort on behalf of everyone who made it !

Some new faces and some old faces back again made it a great night. It was fantastic to see Maddy and Piesplatter over from the States, they have absolutely smashed the longest distance travelled to a London Meet by some distance. Held by Wamdeus on a regular basis but Decadent Doll had previously been crowned with the title. Although it might be a toss up with Phantom still at the very first meet . . . . . . easy suspects he will need to get his atlas and a length of string to be sure.

Sploshman . . . . . . . . well, we think people were visibly shocked . . . . and out of politeness nobody mentioned it, at least not much.
However, it was noted . . . . . half-past eight ! ???? Good work fellah !

We would like to thank you all for turning up and creating the largest gathering so far at the London Meets, we hope you had fun and will be coming again to a London Meet near you soon . . . well, the next London Meet in London that is !

Also, for those that couldn't make it, we missed you and hope you can make the next one . :D

Well what a meet! :D

A fantastic turn out, plenty of beer was drunk and plenty of Curry's eaten (as it was Curry night).

So many subjects of conversation and a general good all round atmosphere from everyone old and new, the meet was a huge success.

It was great to see so many faces.

Many thanks to those who attended, i hope you all had a good time. :D

Shame I missed this I was only away from the boards for a few months and missed the thing completely. There are still too few women attending the meets though.

Wow wow wow!!

25 people! What a success. Sounds like an excellent time. I'm so jealous of you guys. Especially as I'd love to meet Maddy in person - I think she's hardcore WAM!

:D

It was a really good night and it was fantastic to meet new and old faces alike. Especially those that hadn't been able to make the last few, thank you for coming along again. Hopefully the dates will fall more kindly in the future !

I don't want to have to say anything negative or be in any way down on the night but Stonecastle . . .

. . . . we have covered this before when you said exactly the same thing last year, and on numerous occasions !

Let me just reiterate. Hopefully the need to do this will only be the once.

I think it would be fair to say that all the people [ both sexes ] who show an interest in attending, and those that do attend, would like to see a more equal showing of men and women.
However, in general, women will not necessarily turn up on their own to an evening in a pub with relative strangers whom they only know through an internet username at best.

Maybe some couples will come together, maybe they won't. No-one can legislate for that neither should they. We can only hope more people will be encouraged to join the fun.

Posting a comment such as yours will possibly not be as helpful as you might actually think.
As much as your sentiment may be shared by men and women we are not primarily concerned about how many of either sex come, just that whoever comes ( man or woman ) enjoys the evening. Which is, thankfully, exactly what happens - given all the feedback we get either privately , publicly or on the night itself.

Please let this be the end of that particular debate.

Once again, thanks to everyone for being there and I look forward to doing it again sometime soon enough !

I have returned to sunny Manchester, well more like Cold!! Manchester, I too was a bit worse for wear this morning. First of all a big thanks to sotonude for meeting up at the hotel, and chatting, also buying me a pint!! good man!! If your ever going to another meet let me know and I'll sort the hotels again.

A big thanks to Easy and James for sorting the new venue, this is as good as the pub in Leeds, esp if we can use the downstairs section as we where chatting about late last night.

Oh my lord, Maddy and Piesplatter are just a pair of stars, I really enjoyed meeting them and hopefully will meet again possibly next year.

I met Cedes for the first time, She a great laugh and is really into the mud and mess. Leon managed to make it with Lisa, I hadn't seen them both for 12months. Met big Dave and co for the first time, also Bob from Bound2bMessy, nice chap..

Sploshman beatt my time by half an hour, so I lost me fiver!!!!, keep playing the tunes mate!!!!!!!

I would deffo say to people go to these meets as they are held on a weekday getting in and out of London is pretty easy.

I'm hoping that Dids can get some of the pics up from the meet some of them are pretty spectacular.... You'll know what I mean if you see the pics of Maddy and Cedes together!!!!!!!!!

regards

Andy, you're lucky it's only cold up there, its cold AND wet down here!

But WHAT a night! Anybody who wasn't there really missed out; and unfortunately some folks were severely missed (others were severely pissed  ). I met some people I'd met before and was pleased to make the acquaintance of many more.

Certainly a huge thankyou is due to James & easy_as_ for organising the whole thing. I agree with Andy that I hope that some of the pictures taken will appear either here or elsewhere. I forgot my camera but I'm sure that the memories will last a long time.

Richard :D :D :D

ps, Andy I thought of putting the pint in my little black book but it was such a pleasure to meet you again that I'll consider it forgotten  .

I enjoyed that meet indeedy, despite being a relative 'outsider' to all this! I gather I may see some of the faces again in the summer at my local pub when we bring back Tiswas Night!

I'll get some pics uploaded once I can locate my camera! Well chuffed at the photo of myself sandwiched between Cedes and Maddy.

Yeah, now that the regulars there know what to expect, and we know how to put on a better night (learning from the minor mistakes we made), everyone there is looking forward to the next one, and we always welcome new people to the pub.

Tiswas Night 2008 is set to be messier and longer-lasting!

Always depends on my finances and if I can get the time off! It was a case of luck I could make this one!

I've uploaded the lot here...

I like the ones of Cede with red eyes, they seem to suit her personality  .
Err, no, I don't mean she has red eyes because of drink, just that she has a mischievous nature  HELP!

In the pic where Mercedes has her legs around Maddy's neck, is that Maddy's boyfriend (Piesplatter?) in the pic?

It looks like it was such a fun meet up. Even Easy As's shirt famous was there. No pics of Sploshman though? I thought he turned up at a decent hour this time ...
