It was confirmed today by Scottish Police that Colin McRae and one of his young sons along with his agent and his son were killed when the helicopter they were in crashed in Lanarkshire.
I know there's a few Motor-sport fans on here and I think they will agree with me that he was a true sportsman being 5 times British Rally Champion and the only British driver to win the World Rally Championship.
He will be missed by all Motor-sport fan across the world R.I.P Colin you were a inspiration to many.

It is a really sad loss, and so sudden/tragic.

I had the pleasure of meeting Colin and the late Richard Burns a couple of times. I was only group n, 2wd they where both nice people. Col's style was just flat out, where I was more like Richard and started at about 80% and built up to 100% if the car would let me.
I had no idea, until watching the F1 today, I just sat their gobsmacked.
A really sad day for the sport. Another true legend has gone.
Though I did always admire one of his nicknames 'Scotland the Brave'
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
regards
Andy

I agree entirely. He was a man who never did things by halves, something I seriously respect.
I have a mate who has a big fuck off Subaru Imprezza like he drove. Perhaps we should pay tribute by flinging it down a lane at 120 mph, but sadly the owner doesn't have the talent to do that.
Sad news indeed.

Colin
Up here in Scotlandshire he was well known and very well liked.
While trying out a new car in the near-by forest his engine blew up.
Rather than wait for a new one, he flew 350 miles down south in his 'copter and collected a new one within 2 hours!
On his arrival back at the car his mechanics told him it was just the head gasket they needed! Everyone including Colin fell about laughing coz the £4.99 gasket had coz £3,000 to get.
Amazing fella - sadly missed by all,

Yeah really sad news
Maybe he would have won more rallies if he'd played the percentage game, but that would have been like telling Roy Keane to calm down or something.
An absolute rally legend, 100% commitment at all times. He'll be sadly missed.

Colin's death is an absolute tragedy, I was lucky enough to meet both him and his father, Jimmy, on a number of occasions when Colin was just breaking into the big time and they were both absolute gentlemen giving up their time to chat to spectators and explain the more technical aspects of the cars.
My thoughts are with his and the other victims families.
