There has been a lot of interest in Tiswas recently but does anyone remember its late night offspring OTT (Over The Top)?
I remember that it was on late at night on Friday or Saturday at about 11pm and the opening credits showed a completely nude girl getting a bucket of custard over her head and chest.
Does anyone else remember this of is it just a figment of my alcohol fuddled and ancient imagination?
If anyone does remember it? - any info, pics video or links would be most interesting!
Tiswas - Anyone remembet OTT???

Yeah i remember it. It didn't last very long and it wasn't very good compared to Tiswas.
I think ITV got so many complaints about it they took it off air fast. lol.

It managed one series before ITV pulled it.
OTT was intended as an adult Tiswas with comedy sketches, music and bizarre acts. Non-sploshers seem to recall it most for the naked balloon dancers! Various women came on and got messy either in sketches or just for the visual gag of it including a tall blonde model by the name of Caz Carrington (who I met around that time). Their principal 'weapon' was the 'bucket of custard' (probably not real) poured over bikini-clad girls.
It was considered shocking in the early 80s and nearly taken off mid-run. (The female Amercian co-host only made it through one show and was sacked. Quite PC comedy actress Helen Atkinson-Wood made it to the end of the series though). Features such as Alexei Sayle's stand-up act and custard pouring over cleavages was considered far too outrageous then! In fact, now it would be seen as very tame and old fashioned (it was very 'blokey').
Various clips turn up on TV in retro shows. Most famously those balloon dancers and the stripping quiz where Julia Humphries (another 80s model) took her top off live on telly to reveal her bare boobs, leaving a flabbergasted Tarrant shouting "I told you to wear a bra!"
I do have two episodes on DVD somewhere. Mess aside it was awful, and kept Tarrant off the telly for a good few years (apart from the local ATV Saturday Stayback - another clunker). But 10 years later C4 and others were all doing 'after the pub' shows with very similar sorts of items, just better made - and of course, not first!
Bill (old enough to wacth it, and indeed write features about it)
