When the Australian magazine (Wetset) sought to advertise in Splosh I understand that they were told, advertise if you like, but you will not get much of a responce. They advertised, and recieved a tidal wave of responces (pun was intended!)
I certainly didn't have a snooty attitude to knicker wetting but sadly some commercial outlets and the whole of Canada at that time did. When we published Hayley's spread on knickerwetting (Splosh! No 34, thanks for asking), the Canadians refused to allow it through customs. One or two of our more mainstream outlets were also unhappy at it. I thought it was a shame as knickerwetting (as opposed to full-on water sports) seemed like a perfecly acceptable form of wetlook to me. Now, I am happy to say, more people seem to take this view though (as Hayley mentioned earlier) some credit card billing companies are still very muh against it.
As for Wet Set, we never told them not to expect a response purely not to rely on one (that's how hard sell we are!), and far from frowning on them and their enterprise they went on to be our credit card providers (under the name of Ozbill) very happily for several years. We were very sorry when they had to stop this service after being let down by one of their CC clients as they were very efficient and tolerant of all forms of mess.
