DD you rock! and the show does too; all that good humour, fun and madness right back where we remembered it - people were happy back then, bring on more pies! (and make sure they finally send you a t-shirt.)

Lets hope that reunion show becomes a recruiting base.

You so do rock! Just seen it all on my ownsome and it brought back great memories but much improved by knowing the real star - our own DD!

There was a great close-up in there, you have to get freeze-framed by someone with the technology!

Our gal did face some competition for screen time from the (admittedly lovely) lady in the green top stood next to her in the cage, but here's some of the c/u shots I've been able to grab.

One thing I noticed was DD's ability to et in every shot possible. And the double rawk salute! It was hilarously funny - I wish I was more than a twinkle when it was on.....

Why doesnt Sally James do more telly?

I must admit to a certain degree of nervous anticipation before the show last night as I was watching it from two points of view - as a fan of the show with very strong memories of it (and a certain degree of participation in it as I have said many times before) and, at the risk of being presumptuous, as a friend of Dolly's (is that the sploshing equivalent of a 'friend of Dorothy?'). I so wanted it to work from both points of view and was afraid that it wouldn't.

I was wrong.

The show was great and Dolly a real star. She stood her ground at the front despite being soaked with gallons of clearly freezing water (The show took hours to record remember. All that time in a cold wet frock! Fun at home possibly but in a confined place with a bunch of strangers??). Her enthusiasm was evident throughout and all this for no money and with no website/DVD series/TV show to promote. Now that is what I call a splosher.Okay, I'll stop being arselicky now, but I was impressed.

As for the show itself, I think it was actually very good and did everyone a favour by not only recapturing the spirit of the original show but being a lot better than the original! Using just the fun clips cut out the reality of the 70s show like the tedious (from an adult POV) competitions, half hour drama series, occasional serious items and comedy sketches that sometimes didn't work. For all the famous name comics there were a lot of local acts who were a bit shite. But the energy and irreverence was always there and that came over really well.

I think that is what is missing today. Not the energy - there's plenty of that in kids TV - but the irreverence. The attitude that we don't care if you are comedy god, a famous rock star, pop idol or ravishing beauty, stand in that flower pot and have pies chucked at you. Yes, D&D's last item had that element - and how many major celebs joined in that? Hardly any. As a result they had to go down the irony path of having deliberately b-list guests which destroys the gag.

Anyway, the nicely edited clips I'm sure will set TV producers thinking. Okay, no boxing kangaroos these days (thankfully) but a bit more 'edge' and 'irreverence' would help a great deal in both adult and children's TV.

For more pomposity of this sort and memories of the old ATV Centre see the other Tiswas thread. Okay don't then, but don't say I didn't warn you.

PS I love the fact that you watched it with your parents. Nothing to be ashamed about afterall, and I'm really pleased they enjoyed it.

Thought it was brill and worth the wait in seeing and v.funny.

Probs the best show i've seen on TV this year was great to see DD in the cage (lol @ my best mate's GF saying that she was reading the article about you in More magazine am few days back and then seeing her face dropped when i told her that i know you when you came up on the TV last night ).

The Status Quo bit was the funniest for me.

Out to some (not all) of those muppets on the UMD that are moaning that it was a let down

Also was just speaking to my Dad today who also watched it last night. And he told me that i used to watch it with him every Saturday when i was a lil nipper (dunno why only now he's told me this lol - bless him

).

I was well shocked as i was only coming up to 2 yrs old (i'm 28 late next month) when it finished (i think) and can't remember a thing about it from those days lol which is a bit gutting.

Does answer a few questions as to why i love sploshing now tho lol.

Seems like i started from a v.early age lol.

Was talking to Bill last night, and it came back to me amidst memories....there were scenes cut from the programme, possibly on the dvd extras (we can but hope) of chris tarrant in a vicars outfit doing a mock biblical speech... hmm

I was wondering where to post my thoughts about Tiswas Reunited, and here seems like the best thread to do so...

I THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT!

I wasn't sure it was going to work - I feared it might have been some sort of chat show thing where the presenters sat on a semi-circular sofa and spouted weak anecdotes about how hard it used to be to get all the stuff off them after the show while Vernon Kaye or someone pretended to be interested in interviewing them. Instead it was a fantastic reminder of what proved to be a major formative influence on me (which is why I'm on this site!) - pretending to watch Swap Shop, but turning gleefully over to ITV whenever my mum went out of the room!

I remembered how funny Tiswas was, and what a good host Chris Tarrant was at attempting to keep some sort of order... I used to want to go in the cage when I was a kid (And still do, in fact!) but at least we had the delightful DD to do it for us this time around. In fact I agree with everything Bill said in his post on this thread...

Oh, and DD - is there any chance of you doing a shoot with the girl in the green top...?
