Funnily enough I've seen something similar from a French Industrial band (can't for my life remember what they were called) the guy was centre stage with the equipment making all the noises for 20 minutes, while the girl was at the back randomly painting onto a canopy in almost pattern with the music.
The music was awful, but I watched the whole thing just incase she decided to use herself as a paintbrush, but alas it never happened...
