I have found a perfect venue for a "come as you like" Northern meet (which shall be henceforth (by me at least) be referred to as a Splunch (short for sploshers' munch).
Blayd's bar in Leeds is a small gay (and straight) friendly venue tucked away in a back alley behing The Cockpit (a large music venue) and a few minutes' walk from the central train station (so really easy to reach by public transport). The downstairs is nice enough (if a little cosy/cramped) but of particular interest to us is the upstairs room, which has a load of chairs, sofas and tables. This is booked out by private groups, including the Leeds BDSM munch (which is how I came to know of the place), so there are further directions/details on their website (see http://www.leeds.yorkshirebdsm.org.uk/page6.html ). The venue could not be more discreet, being tucked away as it is in the first place and then offering a private function room to boot, so it is ideal for meeting without having to worry about being seen in public with a bunch of friendly weirdos (aside from myself, I daresay DungeonmasterOne and the Gungemaster girls could be persuaded to make an appearance).
I spoke to the landlady this afternoon, a very nice lady by the name of Paula, who tells me they do not charge for use of the room, instead relying on making money through bar takings (though if we want bar staff upstairs, that would cost extra). She's happy for us to book a meet there with the reasonable provido we don't do any actual messy sessions there.
It's also non-smoking in the upstairs room (which suits me fine) but nicotine addicts will need to go downstairs to light up (the Leeds munch tends to end up split between upstairs and downstairs because of this).
So, who's up for a get together in Leeds? Paula did recommend booking a date sooner rather than later as the sheet does fill up quickly, but for the moment aside from the BDSM munch dates (which are the 4th Saturday of each month) it's wide open at the moments. Saturday afternoons have obvious advangtages with regards to work compatability, but a weekday evening meet could be arranged instead if that's more popular. There are loads of fun places in Leeds to go on to afterwards should we so desire and I can set this up as soon as next month if we can agree a date.

Hi Miss Helen.
Sorry I've not been around much recently - hideously busy at work.
Your timing could be good! Area 3 (North-east England, South-east Scotland) is due to be meeting at 2pm on Sat 3rd Feb 'somewhere' (in much the same way that you experienced for Area 2 in Warrington)... if someone actually organises something! The automatic calendar reminder e-mails for that date have already gone out to members and more will be going out 13 and 6 days before that date. Leeds is within Area 3, of course. An example of the pre-event publicity I did for Area 2 both here and at UMD is here: http://www.splosh.co.uk/forum/viewtopic ... warrington
I think the trick is to 'keep going' no matter how many or few turn up for the first one. (Our next area 2 in Warrington should be on the 3rd Sat in April (21st?) by the way. Hopefully we'll get another good turnout for that.)
If you want to use that date of 3rd Feb, it might simplify things. You're more than welcome to use the Area 3 group to deliver e-mail about it to the members too, though don't hold your breath as there aren't many there at present - hopefully this might encourage more to join and then you've got them together where you can deliver info about your meet-ups in future too). You just need to join the group and can then post to it. (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UKWam3/)
[I have to say that I'm surprised by the regional variations. Area 6 (South east), Area 2 (North-west), Area 5 (midlands) and area 4 (South-west) are doing moderately well for numbers but area 1 (Highlands & Islands) and Area 3 (North-east) are not. This might explain why poor old Wamadeus had such trouble finding Wammers in his region, though why this should be is something of a mystery. Cold North Sea influence, perhaps?]
Regards,
C_W.

I'd be interested. It is time I got away from going to the same old place! Besides I owe somebody in Sheffield a visit so I could combine the two. More importantly, I'd like to meet the Northern end of the forum soon.

However the 3rd Feb is right out for me as Dolly is coming down for her Soho gig. She's down again on 12th Feb - with a friend you all know well - and we're hoping they'll both be doing something in the studio.
Weekend or weekday would be fine for me given a lot of notice.

A possibility ... depends when it is TBH. A lot of time my weekends are out for gigs and stuff and know got a couple of bands to see at Cockpit soon and one at the Mixing Tin (mmmm Ellie in latex on stage singing ambient darkwave!)
The third Saturday of most months is the main Leeds Goth club so theres always a few freaks out that weekend anyway ...lol
Shout if you have a date arranged for me a Sat afternoon or early evening is best for trains back to Sheffield and last bus home!

I must admit I am partial to Saturday afternoons for reasons already mentioned, so let's focus on that for the time being.
I think the 3rd Feb is a bit soon (just over a fortnight away), not enough time for everyone to make the necessary arrangements. As Andy says the 17th we're playing and the 24th will be the BDSM munch, leaving the 10th as the only available Saturday in February.
So, how's the 10th of Feb sound? Or should we be looking to March (the 3rd, 10th and 17th are the available Saturdays in that case)?

Third Saturday in March would be bad for us at the Hall as we're planning to be in London that weekend (we're still planning to do the "Non Vanilla Meet" in The Devonshire, Camden, on the day before, Friday 16th, assuming nothing messes up Lady-J's schedule before then).
Other than that I'm up for it as long as gigs and club business permit. 18th Feb, 17th March, and 29th April are all out for me, and without the charabang, the ladies tend not to go further from the Hall than the Village. The road down from the Chase is perilous, even in fine weather.

With Dolly down on the 12th Feb, the 10th may be a problem so it may have to be March - though there's a bit of me that wants to come to Disastermind!
I really do want to meet up ith you all though (except Andy, of course, who I met ten years ago and consequently am only just coming out of therapy)

Okey doke... looking at that, how about Sat. 3rd March? Leaves a fortnight or so before the Camden trip and doesn't clash with anything I'm aware of.

Yep, I can do that one, AFAIK. Sounds like a great venue BTW!

To be honest March would be easier for me, I can get their even if it means the train, its only £16.00 return and i could deffo book the travelodge, and it would be nice to meet up with everyone, quite looking forward to meeting this 'Miss Helen' person!!!! he he he he.
Or if I cold get eveybody who's traveling in the same hotel for a drinky, its all just ideas, no doubt I'll chat to Miss Helen about it soon.
regards
Andy
