off topic ~ tax disc theives

Postby messylaura » 10 Dec 2006, 19:21

saturday i went out at 4 oclock to find my car door glass smashed and my tax disc stolen :(
i fixed the glass with perspex till i get a new one,
baring in mind how easy it was for the theif to just smash the quater glass on the passenger side and grab the disc i've fitted a tamper proof tax holder to my other car and will do when i get the duplicate for this one
also moving them to the top of the windscreen rather than the usual bottom left corner
also went over the faded number plate and model on the tax disc before sealing it , as the summer sun had faded the hand written parts, another gem for the theives,
the theif never even opened the door or looked in the glove box, just purely for the easy to grab disc
i'm hoping that the tamperproof holder which laminates the disc in the plastic and the obvious warning around it deters them from my car next time
they are only old skodas with no alarms etc, but i cant see it putting them off if the want your disc

i got my taperproof discs from halfords, had i of seen a post like this else where before the even i would have already got the stuff and been aware
so i hope this message is of some value to others here
i never worried about theif from my cars because the are old skodas, but with todays clamp downs on tax dodgers this sort of thing is getting more common

motorists always seem to be getting shafted these days, all the money to pay out to put a car on the road, even a cheap skoda... made worse by petty theives who don't respect this and steal from other motorists....

sorry to hear about this. xox

thanks, just a heads up for sites i go on, if you have those little quaterlight glass in your front doors right near where the tax disc goes, its real easy and quick for a theif to smash and grab, maybe the cars without the small glass in them are alittle less attractive to a theif as they will make more noise when busted.

Never had a tax disc stolen but once went out to the car to find it minus wheels and it had been dropped on the brake discs knackering them in to the bargain :x :x :x .

To either forge, using the orginal, or too cash in, claiming the car is off the road. Laura that may be something you need to check up on.

the police and dvla have been informed

its most likely on a windscreen of a car thats not registered or moted

with bus lane and yellowbox fines etc its hardly supprising people dont register cars anymore

if the person that has it on a car doesnt park it ileagally then they will probably get away with it, i know there are some cop cars that have auto number plate check cameras on them, if the computer matches a plate to an untaxed car it makes a noise and alearts the driver of the cop car

still waiting for my logbook and duplicate tax to come from dvla
