So how many Carrie/Connie stories were there roughly? More than 20? 100?
And how often did some kind of wetlook, food or mud come into the storylines?
Glorious Steam Locomotives
Well over 100. It ran all the time I was associated with the magazine (8 years) with only a few gaps (usually pay disputes!). And it was going for a long time before me, though having just had a look at some back issues I notice the first one I worked on has the coverline "Carrie returns..." so obviously did disappear for a bit.
I don't have many now, but she seems to fall in a lot of swimming pools, occasionally in the mud, has a paint fight, pies a waiter and so on just in those. And of course, she always loses her clothes - getting them ripped on nails etc, and falls down a great deal!
Another common feature I notice is cars! Steve Kingston loved drawing cars, and Carrie drove a beautifully detailed Corvette for a while!

No, like I say, there were several artists (principally Bryan Fforbes in the early days and Steve Kingston from 1981 to 89) and lots of people contributed Carrie ideas. I know I certainly did a few, and so did the readers. I think there was a guy who used to send in a lot of the sccript ideas too. I shall ask the editor's ex-secretary - she is still a friend of mine.
Sadly, I doubt the artwork exists for very many though.

This sounds a bit like a later take on the Janeseries. Certain similarities and possibly appealing to a similar audience.
So ... from steam power to steamy power!

How sad is this, my mum and dad are slowly trying to move house and we cleared out the attik of all my old model trains, I took them to some nutty train club and they still work, everybody is raving due to the fact I have the apt!!! and a pacer!!! worse thing was I quite enjoyed seeing them working again. Apart from the Deltic that cried a bit might need a tad of oil I feel.
regards
Andy

Andy - nothing wrong with model railways. In fact I've just been along to an exhibition this very evening!

Manchester (central) was at the end of last month. (There are other suburban shows dotted around Manchester too, such as Hazel Grove this weekend.) It's moved about all over the place in recent years. It always used to be just before Xmas. We always went to that from when I was about 9 to about ... er ... 30+! I remember it used to be billed as "Christmas comes but once a year .... just after the Manchester Model Railway Show!" ... which was true and the anticipatory build-up to Xmas always really started for me with a visit to UMIST (as was) for the show.
No, it's the Merseyside show this weekend over at Birkenhead. We even went for a ride on the immaculately restored trams they've got there, which they were running specially, to coincide with the show. They're also running free vintage bus rides too on a Leyland PD2 (though didn't have time for that).
All good fun!
