Warrington piece (the post-meet up thread)
That alledged apple and blackberry crumble was the lamest offering of a decidely sub-standard pub meal, definitely a case of Mum's Been To Iceland (or, more likely, Netto). I went for the ice-cream with it because I didn't trust them to serve up custard that didn't come in slices, having the whole sorry offering dumped on my head could hardly have been more humiliating than handing over £3.50 for the pissant pudding was.

Spending my life on the road (and occasionally in the gutter), one thing I have learned is NEVER to eat in Yates or Wetherspoons. The bland eating the bland. With the exception of their chicken wraps which are tolerable everything hot is disgusting. Their mixed grill is particularly grim containing lots of items of different shapes that taste identical. I'm never tried dessert. My guess is they are too disgusting to eat and too small to throw!

PS Just watched the Speed Dating film on Youtube. Very funny. Loved it. Though the music all the way through meant some of the brilliant characterisations were lost a bit! Would love to join...

Thanks, Hayley, both for the nice words and the comment. I kept the music going partly to keep in with the video dating theme (the only reason I didn't surround the action with hokey captions of the sort you tend to find on these things was because I'm too lazy), also to help it flow, but maybe I need to work a bit more on the volume balancing between the voice and the backing. I think my bits are OK, because I'm a loud bugger, but Jo's more soft-spoken approach does get lost a bit, now you mention it.
Meanwhile, my dream of joining DD on the YouTube banned list (really, I'm envious.. she's set the bar higher for all of us with that accomplishment) is gaining ground with a comment from an American user with a channel full of pie videos who announced that he had flagged it for inappropriate content because he "didn't care for it at all". It could be that he was uncomfortable with the rampant crossdressing and innuendo, but my best guess is that he took offence to the questions asked in the opening monologue (I myself would have to honestly answer "yes" to at least two of the three).

Yes, I had the sweet & sour chicken, as did Jonny. The rice had clumped in places. Not wonderful but it hasn't killed me!
SSS - ILovePies was spot on - it was the Lord Rodney. I knew it was something about a specific person - As soon as I saw that here, I remembered it. Perhaps you could find your way to doing that sampling for us and let us know if it's suitable for the next meeting in January!?
I've just been looking through the fixture lists for the Warrington Wolves who have the big Halliwell Jones stadium just round the corner from there. Unfortunately, they haven't got the 2007 lists up yet but, looking at last year's, most games seem to take place on Sundays or weeknights, with only the occasional Saturday, so we may be ok. I dare say they'll update the info within the next month or two.

Now this is a bit weird but .... as I read that in my head, I did so with exactly the right Latin rhythm to generate a conga line and now I'm finding that this, and a variation on the line that Miss Helen used earlier ("Mum's been down to Iceland"), keep alternating to that classic conga tune! (I told you it was weird!)
Altogether now:

Nurse! I think the tablets are wearing off again!

interesting simpsons thing here...remember krustys long lost daughter.. when asked how she found him she said "i typed pathetic clown into a search engine and you came up"
go to www.google.com
type in "pathetic clown"
hit "im feeling lucky" button.
....go on.
As for my new flatmate doing the conga, if it happens i'll get a photo!
