my current phone is a sony 610, yeah, ooooold so you can tell how often i change phones, currently on vodafone pay as you go.
well i've been well and truly biten by the Android bug, inparticularly by the powerhouse that is the google nexus one
the US version has been over here for a while but i've been waiting for the uk one, it should be launching this month, (April)
i'll have to switch from payg to monthly contract for the data stuff the smartphones use,
so is anyone else out there running an android phone,
what sold it for me was primarly the google maps and street veiw, i often search google earth for possible muddy spots,
also i cant stand texting on a phone so the nexus with its touch screen qwerty keyboard and even better speech to text, ie any where you can type you can speak it in instead will be great
cant wait
what android apps has anyone found intreasting to wammers?

Re: OFF TOPIC, Android phones
You don't want the Nexus One, you want the HTC Desire (unkindly [to Google] dubbed the Nexus Two!) - out next week, and what the Nexus One should have been. Check out the review on Tech Radar - its currently the Android King, and runs Android 2.1 too.
It wasn't that long ago that I'd punch someone in the face when they pissed me off; now I just delete them from Facebook - that'll show the mother-fuckers...

Re: OFF TOPIC, Android phones
seen that, it doesn't have the duel mics for background noise suppresion
but the desire does have flash support and i like the camera options
have to see what the uk N1 has when it gets released
it may be a case of which network offers the best MB per £ tarriff, i think t mobile is the better one?
have you seen the samsung beam? an android phone with a projector in the top, crazy cool
google are actully working on the nexus two

Re: OFF TOPIC, Android phones
Beware that the battery life is pretty awful on these new smartphones compared your SE. You can also get Google maps on almost any phone (via Java) - lots of high-end phones come with GPS these days.
One other thing about android is that there are many different versions of it currently (1.5, 1.6, 2.0 etc.) Personally, I'd go with the Nexus One simply because it's in Google's interest to make sure it has the latest version of android rather than waiting for HTC or the carriers to make their changes to android before they push the updates out. It does have some limitations though unfortunately - the screen is known to be a bit poor compared to LCD due to the way it works etc.
O2's pay as you go provides free data as long as you pay 10quid a month and adds free texts if you pay 30.
My father has the original G1 android phone. Having used it for a while I actually prefer the iPhone (as much as I'd not like to support Apple they do seem to have got most things right...)

yes, the google will get the updates sooner
2.1 at the mo
t mobile has a larger 'unlimited' internet at 1 gig while vodafone has a 500mb 'unlimited' usage,
as i'm going from an old phone to a smart phone which ever i get its gonna be awsome,
i've been looking at the android apps on youtube and i really like them, google sky, google googles google spy, google streetveiw turn by turn,
i've alwaysed liked google stuff on my pc so it makes sence for me to go with the big G
have to wait till it gets its official uk launch and see,
anxious
is it a boy or a girl?, no, its an android LOL

Re: OFF TOPIC, Android phones

Are you talking about mobile phones? If so, I hate the bloody things; I only have one because my ladyfriend insisted in case I get lost when we are on holiday. I rarely switch it on but I needed to send a twelve word text message the other day; it took me about half an hour to figure out how to do punctuation

I would say they were the work of the Devil if I thought there was such a being!

I've had the HTC Hero for a while now and still really loving it. Lots of time wasting apps in the Android Market and best of all they are free!

Re: OFF TOPIC, Android phones
LOL at Richard!
My Sony Erricson phone recently went kapput on me, so I went to the Nokia shop and asked for the cheapest phone they had ....just make calls, receive calls, likewise for texting ... oh and it works as an alarm clock too.
Everything else adds uneccessary complication.
My new Nokia is so cheap I don't care if I leave it in the back of a taxi or drop it in water.
Phantom

Re: OFF TOPIC, Android phones
true, my mobile phone has been just that, a phone, all my freinds moan cos its always off, as a panel beater i leave it out the way or it would get battered to death, i've never been that keen on mobile phones, when i'm out by the lake its off,
if i go out clubbing then i take and still will take a cheap phone that i don't mind if it gets soaked, being me, theres a high chance it will see some water LOL
there are some good practical apps too, the speach to text translator is one i'm keen to try out,
and the google maps will make finding those muddy places much easier,
