The London Splunch - Official Release

Postby DungeonMasterOne » 06 Mar 2007, 00:01

Ok, following the success of the Leeds Splunch, time to get things rolling on the mainline (hopefully with assistance from Sir Nigel and Mr Churchward) for the "London non-vanilla Sploshers Goth Pub Meet". 8)

FAQ:

What: A pub meet for sploshers who prefer a non-vanilla setting where fetishwear, models in character, crossdressing, etc are all allowed.

When: Friday 30th March. Timewise, there wil be two "sessions" to allow flexibility: Afternoon, 2pm - 5pm(ish), Evening, 8pm till everyone wants to go home / elsewhere.

Where: The Devonshire Arms, 33 Kentish Town Road, Camden. NW1 8NL

Dresscode: While this is billed as a "non-vanilla meet" we must respect the dresscode of the venue itself, which is strictly "Goth / Fetish / Punk / Alternative". If you're already part of the alternative club scene you'll probably know what to / not to wear, if not, a good baseline is "wear as much black as possible and no sportswear, no high street brands, no bright colours, and no beige". Black jeans, black or band t-shirt and black leather or black denim jacket will do just fine.

Crossdressing is fine, but again, keep it dark - turning up crossdressed in a white business suit or bright yellow skirt isn't going to work and you probably won't get in.

Finally, while rubber / leather / PVC / fetishwear is allowed, keep it to stuff you can wear in public / on the club scene. No exposed naughty bits please!

Rules (just a couple to keep things clear):

1. This is a pub meet, not a sploshing session. No active participation or gungeplay is allowed in the venue, though participants are welcome to arrange private sessions to take place elsewhere afterwards if they wish - but remember if someone says "no", they mean "no".

2. No oggling / harassing anyone. This applies as much to the other patrons as it does other splunchers. The Goth Scene is generally a very welcoming / friendly place for people who's sexuality or lifestyle doesn't fit mainstream society, anyone who makes anyone else in the venue feel uncomfortable will be asked to leave.

3. Remember the idea is to meet people, chat, and have fun. Everyone has their own tastes and interests, no holding forth on "the one true way" to do things, etc.

Q: This all sounds a bit restrictive, why was this venue chosen?

A: The idea of a non-vanilla meet was thrown into the ring a month or so back, at the time various venues were suggested but all turned out to be unavailable / unsuitable / have been closed and turned into yuppie flats / no-one could remember the exact location. Quite a few of us however are part of the Goth scene and already familiar with The Dev, so to us at least it seems the obvious place to meet up. Even if no-one else turns up, four of us are heading down from Leeds that day to buy New Rock boots, clothes, etc, in Camden anyway.

Q: How will we recognise each other?

A: Look for any of Lady Jasmine, Miss Pink, Miss Helen, or a long-haired bloke in huge boots and either a black boilersuit or black dungarees. We'll probably try and arrange some other identifying feature nearer the time - possibly a copy of Splosh! mag or a printed out photo from The Gungemaster Photosets on the table.

Q: How much should we drink?

A: Drink the place dry! That way they'll hopefully be glad to see us all again. :D

Any other questions, fire away!

Update: Just found an old flyer and it seems the Dev doesn't open till 5 on weekdays (I'd have sworn I was in there a weekday afternoon before now!). So post changed accordingly - meet is 5pm till late.

Update 2: Have double-checked and it seems my flyer is out of date, the Dev now opens at 1pm on weekday afternoons. So the "two session plan", 2pm - 5pm and 8pm - late, is back in place. Sorry about the confusion!

Just as a confirmation / reminder, the Dev meet is very much on, I've just booked the hotel rooms for the party from Saturation Hall, comprising Lady Jasmine and Miss Pink, and Miss Helen of Wamdrogony fame will be coming with us too.

2pm to 5pm, and 8pm to late, The Devonshire Arms, Camden. Details above. Be there or be elsewhere! 8)

Would love a day off and since I wear black almost all the time (and PVC very occasionally) for once the dress code suits me perfectly. Unfortunately, work prevents me making it. Hope it goes really well though.
