Hey, does anyone know what sort of paints would be safe to splosh with? I know that house paint would be a bad idea, for instance. :P Anyone got experience?

Poster paints like you get from the Early Learning Centre are safe though the darker ones may stain clothing. They are meant for kids so won't do you any harm.

PS Water based emulsion is 'safe' but use in small quantities cos it is a long process to clean up if you pour it!

Hey Hayley...

Used 3 x 2.5L of emultion house paint the other day and it was fantastic... Didn't take long to clean either (we've got quite good water pressure!). Also didn't do me any harm... :)

Pics are on my blog.... http://mudmonster79.blogspot.com

Yes, but you've got rather less hair than I have!

Try tempra paint. Sometimes it comes in a powder and you just add water. Otherwise you can buy it pre-mixed. I'm not sure on the exact price, but it typically isn't expensive.

I was once given some advice to ensure poster paint always comes out of clothing when I was working with some kids over a decade ago. For most colours just add a drop of fairy liquid to the normal amount you'd put in a child's painting pallet. However I'd avoid black as the advice was more along the lines of 50:50 paint and fairy liquid.

However I wouldn't advise this if it's going near your eyes.

Anyone know what the poster paint is like to clean up from surfaces? I want to try using it in a lined bath but worried about getting it on the tiled walls!

Hi Splosherrob,

The poster paint will clean from sealed surfaces (glazed tiles, enamel, plastic etc.) easily with soap and water. The grout in between can be terribly prone to staining and time-consuming to rectify, as will be any nooks, crannies or surfaces (in the bathroom) where traces of limescale or other scummy films might have collected which, while they usually go unnoticed, will now be highlighted by the paint. Thoroughly clean all the surfaces beforehand (crazy as it may sound) to minimise this or else I would cover up as much as possible with plastic sheeting and save yourself a lot of work. Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

T

Silly question, but is this the same as tempera paint (I've seen both spellings used in various places) - and does anybody know where one can get some? Hobbycraft only seems to stock copper, gold and silver colours, whcih aren't really the kind of thing I'm looking for.
