Live Sploshing Event Help!

Postby sarah_orange » 17 Feb 2010, 11:17

Hi - I'm Sarah Orange, I run an alternative nightclub, theSubculture, in Leeds. Like a lot of smaller non-mainstream venues we're having financial difficulties at the moment (see the facebook fan page 'save the subculture' if you're interested) and are thinking of ways to fundraise.

One of our regulars runs a splosh site (and posts on here as DungeonMasterOne by the look of it) and I've done some custardy modelling for him before (see icon) – he suggested setting up a pay per download site featuring volunteer club regulars sploshing. Marvellous says I, and he starts setting it up. By this time I’ve got to thinking more on the subject and decide that what would be even better would be a Live Sploshing Event (that could also be filmed/snapped for the download site) We’ve put on a fair amount of Burlesque at the club so have some ideas for running the event but none of us have actually been to a splosh club event and so I’m here asking for advice and information etc from you lovely folks.

We plan to run it in the late afternoon, early evening one Saturday soonish. I’m sure by rallying the denizens of the club we can find plenty of varied ladies and some photographers willing to donate their time for free. I figure a compere would be good but any suggestions regarding the length of acts for planning and the variety of acts possible would be useful (I figure there has to be at least one jelly wrestle! And I thought a reverse splosh burlesque strip where someone has the gunge squeegied off them might work). Also extra stuff like what are the practicalities of custard pie auctions and other audience participation. What’s a reasonable amount to charge in (the people who run burlesque nights charge £8/£6 nus – is this about right? To low? To high?) etc etc – basically I’m a N00b and need help

I hope it works because it would be a tremendously fun way of raising money for the club – any help appreciated :D

right I'm rambling now so I'm off :)

Well if this goes ahead count me in!

You could try getting in touch with Gunjee - http://www.gunjee.com/ - who specialises in providing gunge/dunk tanks for nightclubs and events.

Also you might want to look at the stories called 'Flatmates' posted the stories forum fairly recently, it's a fictional account of a burlesque/splosh club but could give you some good ideas for how to make it a reality.

@pacman - thanks for that - I'll have a read and make some notes at lunchtime :)

@latexcrossdresser - interesting - different to jelly wrestling then...?

I suppose if we did 2 bouts of jelly we could pit the winners against each other in a bout of mud....

How about burlesque routines with plenty of custard pies liberally applied? The dancer could wave them around like they were fan dancing and then slap them into there arse, tits, head and any were else really.

For audience participation you would have to make it crystal clear that you are not responsible for any damage clothing or injury. I would not be too hard to get people to sign up a waiver as they enter.

You could have custard pie fights, charge an extra few pounds and allow people to have a custard pie fight in a corded of area with a table of 10 pies per person, upto 4 or 6 people at a time would be a good idea.

Have an area where one paying of £1 would get you 3 custard pies to pie a man or woman in the stocks (staff/models or willing people would be good enough, nicely attired in evening wear)

Just a few more ideas for you.
Andy.

Surpose the key element is to ensure enough "clean up" facilities on site and also strict guidelines of involvement and such so that none of the participants get carried away who shouldn't which could endanger any licencing agreements with the local councils.

If DM1 is serious about doing it then I'll help for free..... Models will cost, simple as that. Though at a push I might be able to help with
payment. Scene's, skits, shows aren't a problem. Plus its an excuse for myself and DM1 to have some pintage!!!!

If it happens I'd most likely stay over. Though you need to get support for the event to happen, I'll make the time to be there. Might be able to supply a camera man, depending on his commitments / availability.

regards

Andy and team

p.s. Did 10yrs in clubs as jock, so I know frustrating the finance side can be.

Pintage sounds like a plan! It's been too long.

I guess a question you might want to ask is 'is this going to be a splosh event, or a burlesque event with a few splosh elements?'

I'm not sure anyone knows how successful a splosh event will be (in a numbers-through-the-door way) - it's 'exclusive' to only people who know what they're going for, and don't mind anyone else knowing - or they go without telling any of their friends.

I see the better option being the burlesque event with a few splosh elements - maybe a custard wrestling centre-piece (caged asylum in Manchester had this at one point), but then for the rest of the event; splosh just being 'another element' of the burlesque routines - like a few pies in a routine - maybe a cake sitting?

Just a few random thoughts going through my head - I'd like to come along to this, with my friends who I would go to the burlesque nights with anyway, and for them to feel like it is another burlesque night with 'another twist', rather than something completely different.

-

I hope i've explained myself well - let me know if I haven't!

Looks good. Why are they advertising dating sites in the google advert overlay? Do they think people watching that sort of thing need a date?? ;)

thanks for all your input

date and time is hopefully 3-7pm 17th April

to answer a couple of points:

hopefully it's sploshy burlesque not burlesque with a tenuous nod to splosh. there will be mud/jelly wrestling and some sort of pie auction(gotta find someone 'unpopular' to pie :D ) and I do intend to bury someone in beans :D
it is going to be a mostly stage based event though rather than an audience participation one as there is a difficulty with licensing and public liability insurance what with it being a slippy slippy passtime.
also we have managed to procure plenty of volunteers or all shapes and sizes - this pleases me greatly and means I should be able to find someone to wrestle with :D

I'm afraid I cannot do that day, as I am already booked for pro female wrestling shoots in Manchester. Hope all goes well though.

regards

Andy and the team

HANG ON!!!!! I've cocked up with my dates. Appologies. I'm shooting on the 18th not the 17th. So I might be able to do something yet.

Pm me if you want me to come over.
