Claire and Emma in the pool wearing riding boots

Both Claire and Emma loved wearing boots and rarely wore any other kind of footwear, even in the summer.

Claire loved them so much, she even slept in them from time to time. She would wake up in the morning and sometimes they would both still be on, and other times either one or both of them would have fallen off during the night and ended up at the bottom of the bed.



Anyway, the girls were just on their way back from their horse-riding lesson and had decided to take a night-time swim in the local swimming pool, where Claire worked.

“Here we are again!” exclaimed Claire, “It’s been a hot day, let’s cool down in the pool – and as usual we keep our clothes on”.

Emma replied: “Might be harder than usual with our jackets, tight jodhpurs and riding boots on. But let’s give it a go”.

Both girls walked through the entrance door to the large indoor swimming pool.

Claire was wearing a red leather jacket, blue t-shirt, cream-coloured jodhpurs, and long black riding boots.

Emma had on a black leather jacket, white t-shirt, white jodhpurs, and long black riding boots.

Both girls wore identical boots, they had bought them at the same shop, exactly the same as in the picture below.

“Let’s try something different this time- let’s dive in at the deep end first”.

“Ok” replied Emma, “I love swimming with my boots on. It’s always fun when they first fill with water”.

“I agree” Claire said, “but it doesn’t make it easy to swim when wearing them and it’s always a bit of a gamble as to whether they’ll stay on…”

“…or fall off!” replied Emma, “We haven’t swam with our riding boots on before. I wonder what’ll happen”.

Both girls walked up the steps to the diving board at the deep end of the pool.

The pool was deep here, almost 3 metres.

Claire, wearing her leather jacket, jodhpurs and long riding boots walked to the end of the diving board and jumped off, feet first. As she headed towards the water, she was wondering if her boots would fill with water and pull her down.

She hit the surface of the water two seconds later and continued to sink towards the bottom of the pool, in an upright position. She immediately felt the water enter her boots and soak the rest of her clothing.

Claire plummeted two and a half metres below the water, then came to a stop and slowly she started heading back towards the surface of the water. As she started rising upwards towards the surface, she could feel both of her riding boots starting to fall off, and she thought she was going to lose them, but when she surfaced they had just about managed to stay on, but had fallen down her legs and off her feet a bit.

She shouted up to Emma; “My boots have stayed on, just about!”

Claire pulled her boots back up to her knees and started treading water.

Emma jumped in off the diving board next, head first, wearing her leather jacket, jodhpurs, and knee-length riding boots. As she fell towards the water, she couldn’t help but wonder if her boots would fall off.

She hit the surface of the water at speed head first and she kept heading downwards very fast. Her feet entered the water lastly, and she felt both her riding boots immediately come off as she continued downwards. It was as simple as that: one second the boots were on, the next second they had both fallen off.

A few seconds later, Emma surfaced “My boots fell off!” she said.

“I know”, replied Claire “I saw them come off. They floated to the top and I rescued them for you”.

Claire gave Emma her boots back, and Emma put them back on. Both girls swam a little, towards where it was less deep.

“Let’s do some swimming”, said Claire.

Both girls started swimming in the pool, wearing their leather jackets, jodhpurs and long riding boots.

As she swam, Emma could feel her heavy boots pulling her down.

“My boots are full of water and sooooo heavy!” said Emma.

“Mine too”, replied Clare, “so difficult to swim in them, they are totally full of water and dragging me down a bit. And the leather jackets make swimming so much harder too”.

Emma swam towards Claire.

Emma slowly removed Claire’s leather jacket.

“Thanks that’s better!” said Claire.

Claire then took Emma’s leather jacket off for her.

Both girls were left wearing their t-shirts, jodhpurs, and riding boots.

“Let’s swim underwater!” said Claire.

“Ok!” replied Emma, “should be easier now we don’t have our jackets on, but these riding boots make swimming a lot harder, and I think they will fall off before too long”.

“We’ll see!” replied Claire.

Both girls started swimming underwater in their t-shirts, jodhpurs and long riding boots.

Claire’s boots felt very heavy and as she kicked her legs she felt her boots with the water inside them, and with every kick of her legs she could feel them wanting to come off. As she was swimming, she caught her t-shirt on one of the pool ladders. It ripped and then fell off, revealing her blue sports bra.

Emma, swimming around underwater, loving the way her boots felt on her legs, she so badly wanted them to stay on. But she knew they weren’t designed to swim in. She too was starting to feel her boots ever so slowly falling off, so she curled her toes up inside her boots to try to keep them on.

Than, amazingly, Claire managed to find, quite by accident, two pairs of goggles on the bottom of the pool. Somebody must have lost them. Underwater, she swam up to Emma, gave her a pair of goggles, and they both put them on, still underwater.

Emma looked at Claire swimming under the water. She had her sports bra and tight jodhpurs on, and her riding boots of course, which looked like they were partially falling off.

Claire looked back at Emma and saw her underwater in her t-shirt, jodhpurs and riding boots. Claire swam up to Emma and slowly removed her t-shirt, revealing Emma’s frilly red bra.

Both girls started swimming again, underwater, each wearing a bra, tight jodhpurs, riding boots, and goggles.

Claire’s could feel her boots falling off the more she swam. With every kick, they were falling further down her legs and off her feet. Claire knew that they were going to totally fall off in a very short time.

Emma was swimming underwater too, with her boots on, and she too could feel them slowly coming off, she so badly wanted them to stay on though, but she kept swimming, and the more she swam, the more she could feel the boots coming off.

Then, with a kick of her leg, Claire’s left boot fell off and revealed her short white sock. She was left with just one boot on for a brief while, but in a very short time, that too fell off. She felt such a relief her boots were off, it was much easier for her to swim now. She unbuttoned her jodhpurs, slid them off, and in just her underwear, she swam towards Emma.

Emma wasn’t sure how much longer her boots would stay on, they were gradually falling off, she could feel them coming off the more she swam. The button holding her jodhpurs up had popped open too, and they were becoming loose at the waist.

Claire approached Emma underwater, and could see Emma swimming, her riding boots looking like they were half on, half off. Claire grabbed hold of Emma’s left boot and pulled it off.

Emma felt her left boot come off, looked behind, and realised Claire had removed it.

Claire then grabbed Emma’s other boot and pulled it off.

Emma felt her other boot being removed and felt a bit sad she had lost both her boots.

Then Claire took hold of Emma’s jodhpurs and pulled them off.

Emma felt her jodhpurs slide down her legs and come off.

Both girls swam to the surface of the water in just their underwear, and got out of the pool.

They just looked at each other and giggled.




The next day, the pool cleaner couldn’t quite work out why there were two leather jackets, two t-shirts, two pairs of jodhpurs, and two pairs of riding boots in the pool.
