Bristol Splunch 12. 17th August 2013

The twelfth Bristol Splunchwill take place on Saturday, 17th August 2013 from 2:00pm – 7:00pm in Horts Bar, 49 Broad Street, Bristol, BS1 2EP, and for those who are still peckish/thirsty later at some eatery/watering hole elsewhere in or near the city.

This is a vanilla meet; all over 18 from anywhere are welcome, and entry is free – I might even buy your first drink.

Have a look here for Bill's hilarious blog about the fourth Bristol Splunch.

How do I get there?

Broad Street is about twenty minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads railway station, easily accessible from almost anywhere in the country, and there are several car parks nearby.

From the railway station exit, turn right along Temple Gate to the roundabout, cross over onto Victoria Street, continue over the river bridge into High Street, and bear gently left into Broad Street as High Street turns to the right into Wine Street. Horts Bar is about one hundred yards down on the right.

From the bus/coach station, exit onto Whitson Street, left into Lower Maudlin Street, cross Lewins Mead to Rupert Street and turn right. After about two hundred yards, turn left into Christmas Street, cross Quay Street and through the stone archway into Broad Street. Horts Bar is about fifty yards up on the left.

For those driving, at the bottom of the M32/Newfoundland Street, turn right onto Bond Street, take the first exit at the roundabout into The Haymarket, turn left into Bridewell Street, left into Nelson Street, right into Halifax Street and into the multi-storey on All Saints' Street - only £5 for the whole day, and closer than any other one.

To get to the bar, from All Saints' Street, turn right into Pithay, right into Tower Lane, left into Newmarket Avenue, and right onto Broad Street - the bar is a few yards down on the right. (Politically correct notice – other car parks are available in Bristol.)

For those flush enough (or subsidised) flying into Bristol (Lulsgate) Airport, take the 331 bus service to the bus/coach station and proceed as above from there.

Hotels – the usual chains are readily available: Premier Inn, Haymarket (next to the bus station, approx ¼ mile – full); Premier Inn, King Street (approx ½ mile – from £84); Hotel Ibis, Temple Quay (approx 1 mile – from £63); Hotel Ibis, Anchor Road (approx ½ mile - from £85); Travelodge, Anchor Road (approx ½ mile – from £69); Travelodge, Mitchell Lane (approx ½ mile – from £66); Holiday Inn Express (approx ¾ mile – from £80); Holiday Inn (approx 1 mile – full); Future Inn, Cabot Circus (approx ½ mile – from £78); Novotel, Victoria Street (approx ½ mile - full); and Mercure Brigstowe (approx ½ mile – from £77). For those hotels that are not available for Saturday only, rooms seem to be readily available for two-night stays, either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday nights at very reasonable rates. Other hotels are available – check laterooms.com or similar sites.

I’ll be hoping to do an outdoor mud shoot on the Sunday (always subject to the bl**dy weather and availability of sober drivers), but I’ll have to see how I feel much nearer the time – unless someone else wants to run a session on Sunday.

If you have any further questions, post them here or pm me.

Just a 'maybe' this time. It would be good if that nice Mr Brunel would park his "Great Eastern" ship in Bristol for us to see. Perhaps you could have a word with him Mike; he must be almost as old as you! So there would be plenty to talk about. :)

Also, please let me know if you’ll be joining us for dinner in the evening.

Dress code for the evening, Mike?

Sadly I’m unable to make it this time as I’ll be on holiday.

I’m gutted as I would love to have attended, especially as this one will be in honour of Bill.

If I were able to attend, I would have brought up the time I was chatting with Bill at one of the Bristol meets.
We had a long chat about a Snooker Parody (Snooker Gloopy) he did with Gilly and Hydee.
Bill provides a hilarious ‘voice over’ throughout (he is actually mimicking Terry Griffiths and Ted Low, 2 famous snooker commentators with very distinctive voices). He was clearly in his element when he recorded them (and really seemed to enjoy chatting about it with me!)

Anyway, I hope everyone has a fantastic time in honour of the great man (I’ll be thinking of you all).

I will continue to support these events.

Jason

Richard, for you, I suggest a posing pouch and nipple clamps ... unless you'd feel more at ease in normal casual gear. Certainly no black ties, etc.

Mike.

Well, I've booked the hotel now so I'll have to attend the bash! I'm at the Ibis down by the Planetarium so its not far to walk up to Hort's. I will be joining the late Saturday evening meal if nobody objects so please put me on the list, Mike. Just got to sort out the trains now (unless Mike can send a steam loco to Southampton & pick me up in my posing pouch! )

Richard, as I'm sure you're aware, Health and Safety requirements preclude you being on the footplate of a steam loco in just a posing pouch.
