Hi All,

Saw this story in the paper today. Health and safety gone barmy.

No - this is the usual issue. It's nothing to do with health and safety. It is to do with insurance and litigation.

Most of the stories in the papers about 'health and safety gone mad' are completely false and the H&S Executive is so fed up with being blamed when they're quite happy for these things to go ahead that they've actually set up a specific unit to try to counter the ridiculous claims that are used by the press to *sell more papers*!

Indeed - the HSE has already responded to say that it has no issues with a good custard pie fight: https://twitter.com/H_S_E/statuses/335475884154814464

Typical Richard Littlejohn-style "Health & Safety/political correctness gone mad" "world going to hell in a handcart" bollocks. As you say Lesley, it is far more likely that insurance companies said no or would have charged so much (as they do for outdoor events) that it became a better story NOT to hold it than to do it.

Doesn't this just make your urine boil   ...and if you simply didn't bother with insurance, some twat would slip on the foam and sue you

What an interesting find... the photo they are using for the article is one mine! I presume sold by the photographic library I am with.

I should do... if the photo library is doing it's job properly! But with UK newspapers it can take ages to come through.
