Geo cache

Postby messyalan » 26 Oct 2012, 16:02

I have been sent a geo cache and I enjoyed doing it although it wasn't a wam one (it was nude in public with pics). I was wondering about a wam variant. A messy item left somewhere and a location sent. The person has to use that item at (or near, so it is identifiable) the location wearing whatever clothes they have on. An addition might be that an item (or items) of clothing could be left as well.
Drop me a line if you like the idea. I am in the East MIdlands and happy to be sent a geo cache or create one for someone else.

I do geocaching as a hobby and I love it which brings me to two points;

Tell me more about what you were sent. A geocache involve finding a box or sometimes an item in a certain place, i'm a little confused about being sent one. Did someone email you some co-ordinates and a challenge? Tell me more. A wam cache sounds great.

I've mixed caching and wamming many times. Sometimes it's easy to do, for example I really want to find GC3DKAN 'muddy track' http://coord.info/GC3DKAN. The last attempt by someone was abandonned as trials bikes had churned everywhere up too much. With my pro account I can greate 'pocket queries', a list of the 1,000 caches of a certain type nearest a certain point, and their last 5 logs. Searching this xml file for words like 'muddy', 'deep' or 'wellies' can help find great places to get a bit peppa pig. I found one like this the someone had hung from a tree in a swamp which involved a commando crawl at one point.

My favorite cache ever, and probably the toughest, was flotsam and jetsam extreme, a 2 mile hike across bristol channel mud, to two WWII era barges which were sunk for target practice. Videos of others doing this cache can be found on youtube.

Sorry I didn't explain it properly did I? Someone from GetDare sent me the co-ordinates. When I got there it was a disused barn near a road bridge over a dual carriageway. There was a box. Inside the box it instructed me to undress and walk to the centre of the bridge where there was a tape fixed. I had to take a picture of me holding the tape. I did it on video for ease. First time I tried it I had to retreat as there was someone coming. Managed it second time but never actually found the tape. There is a video of it at http://www.wtanmse.co.uk/Video_Dares/dare002.html but you will need an up to date browser to view.
I think the hike across the Bristol channel might be a little too much! More like a carton of custard.

Sounds great, I'll have to watch the video later. I've done a quick search of caches centered on your village, and here are a few wet or muddy ones for you or Davina to try. I can't add a challenge to them as I've not been to them myself, unfortunately I'm too far away.

GC3DRQ3 - Down by the ford. "Bring wellies as wading will be necessary"
GC32C01 - Another wading one
GC3FEDG - Very popular, and muddy
GC3MHM6 - Stinky deep mud with a difficult terrain rating, possibly a ditch or culvert?
GC326E2 - Wet I think
GC1QNW3 - Muddy paths
GC355YZ - Very muddy paths

This all reminds me, I do have a challenge /scenario for Davina, I'll PM you later.

They sound good. Unfortunately I am not a premium member so can't see all of them (Not GC3MHM6) but will try the rest as soon as I can.

done a couple of geo's, i was thinking of setting a couple in a muddy place, one would be on the bank of the thames,

as for the splosh or wam caches that sounds like an intereasting concept, bring your own wam substance (nice stuff) to leave behind for the next finder and use the one already left
wam search words: Мокрая, ливень, alluvione

That sounds good. Unfortunately the Thames is a bit far to travel but hope you get some takers. Still would like to set some for the East Midland wammers.

Must admit I hadn't until about a year ago. I suppose it didn't work quite as well with maps.

I've only ever attempted one geocache hunt, and I'm pretty sure the cache had been nicked. :(

I love the idea of a WAM cache though. Maybe hide a single carton of custard, or a bottle of chocolate sauce or something and ask the finder to replace it with something else. Once you find it you obviously need to use it.

Even a simple muddy one would be cool, but it looks like Worcester is a bit lacking in that area.

Now Worcester is getting nearer. Any takers in the East Midlands?
