Japanese/Korean Mud Festivals

Don't know if any of you are aware of this, but there are several "mud festivals" that take place in Japan and South Korea. One of the most outrageous is the "Mud Olympics" in Japan. They run, ride bikes, and even dance, in the mud! I've got a tape of highlights of it, from Japanese TV. Some segments actually show the pretty presenters of TV shows wallowing in the mud.
So let's all go to Japan!

I lived in Japan for a couple of years but never came across mud festivals there. However on a trip to Taiwan and did go to some mud Olympics which were organised by a US radio station and an English pun in Taipai. The events were things along the line of mud tug of war, mud racing etc the participants were a mixture of locals and foreigners and about 50% male/ female.

It was a good few years ago, 1991 I think. I used to have some polaroids but I think these got thrown away.
