Brand new Splosh membership website?

Postby snake » 22 Aug 2012, 14:32

Splosh! is proud to announce a brand new subscription based web site launching tomorrow that will recreate all the humour, wit and, most importantly messiness of the original Splosh! magazine, but in digital form!

Features will include high res image galleries, HD downloadable videos, as well as a letters/comments page and a monthly editorial from Bill Shipton (the man, the legend)

okay, so I can dream....

I used to buy Splosh! magazine back in the day from the shop mentioned in this post. I remember, after the release of issue 40, I visited the shop a few times asking if there were any new issues, but in vain.

Just how good would it be to have some new Splosh! material?! I don't want to sound sycophantic, or blow smoke up Bill's arse, but I honestly think that the style of the Splosh! mess is second to none. The closest thing to an online Splosh! magazine was Gilly's Silly House which I had a membership to. You could easily see Bill's influence on the content and there was some great stuff in there. Sadly GSH is no more.

So how about it Bill?

I realise you've got a semi-permanent job supporting your local publican and that, like any man, your time is precious, but I'm sure there would be a lot of people interested in seeing some new Splosh! material.

I mean, look at some of this content from previous magazines.... Simply delicious!

You got me worried there. I thought you'd found somebody impersonating me and highjacking our stuff!

Okay, I admit that I had some time off from creating new material. Lots of reasons - some personal (sick elderly parents not to mention sick, elderly me), some financial (it costs a lot to make anything worthwhile these days and there are so many people out there you can't guarantee it will break even) and some paranoid (getting old, a bit of a dinosaur etc etc). Then there was the site breaking down which really made me want to jack it all in. But now it's fixed I am feeling a lot happier. And I have been slowly making a return to the real sploshing world.

The first step was to do some fun private sessions like those with Splatella and Linda. Apart from seeing if it was all as enjoyable as I remembered (it was), it was also good to see I could still handle all the setting up and clearing up. In fact, one sketch I did as part of the three-day marathon was the most fun I've had in years! As a result, it has made me want to get back to making movies again.

I am not sure a digital magazine is the answer. You can get most of those things free either here or on other sites so I doubt anyone would pay for them. But I have several ideas for new film series which I hope will have some of our trademark humour in. Discussions with the various people who have been in for sessions in the last few weeks (thanks, guys) have reassured me that Splosh!'s style is still in demand so this particular dinosaur will rise again with some new films shortly.

Just consider yourself lucky you have been spared (or maybe not) such obvious parodies as the Paralytic Games St Leonards 2012 where drunken people take part in events like the Women's 10,000 Litres (custard), the Pie Jump and Pin the Nose on Rebecca Adlington. I was gobsmacked that hardly anyone did any Olympics piss-takes. I deliberately avoided them cos I thought they'd be everywhere.

As for Gilly's Silly House, it is still open for business. You can still join up or download films individually. It was Gilly's decision not to make any more GSH films not mine - though I am still trying to get her to do the occasional one if she can fit it in around webcam work and MILFing it up on Babestation and the like.

So some of what you wish for, may happen. I may even go back to writing the blog - now I actually have stuff to write about. However, I do take my part time role of keeping my local pub afloat very seriously. There is talk of it closing at Christmas, so I have a LOT of drinking to do to keep it alive.

I agree. Those SillyHouse movies are slapstick classics and many of my fav downloads can still be found on the site.

Would be great to see some new stuff from the likes of Sammy Jane, Gilly, Clown Julie etc - and maybe some new faces.

However appreciate that there are other priorities and so as Snake says, whatever you decide to do (or not) we're all behind you.

Well the sketch I did in the private session that made me so happy was very Silly House. I played a Krusty-like Northern clown whose circus had clearly seen better days and takes out his bitterness by getting a reluctant posh woman up from the audience and completely annihilating her with dozens of pies, buckets of water, aerosol foam sprays, buckets of slosh and ice cold hosings down over and over! Our sessionee was of course the hapless victim (in genuine silk Monsoon dress no less). It was totally spontaneous and done in one continuous 27 minute take (more like a rant!)! Slapstick but with a slightly dark humour too. Obviously embittered clown is my natural character cos it worked really well and we both loved it. Definitely worth doing as a proper version of sometime. Hope I get to see what we filmed - even though it was done in long shot on a static camera.

Yes, any films I make will continue to use the old stars (as much as possible) and newcomers who understand slapstick comedy. I still love that.

Thank you for the encouragement. It's just what I need to get me off my arse.
